"they're not hurting anything"

a man tresspassed on my relatives land and he got hurt ad he sued. i was the only one there at the time but he sued the property owners, my relatives, thru me(im broke)
he got 75 thou but they were aiming at 200. he could have taken everything away.the property owners had closed shop for the day and left, werent even there, didnt know i was there.
please dont underestimate what they can take away from you or people close to you. my father never forgave me for it-not even at the end- now hes gone. no one has forgiven me. the relationship between me and my family was DESTROYED.what did i do wrong? i stopped what i was doing and helped that tresspasser with directions.
dont assume that the tresspassing laws will protect you, no matter what the circumstances.and if that link by oilpatch, "overcomerministries", is brother stair's ministry, then i know the area - lots of people down around here are just like oilpatch.
they do things like- vandalising cars with 'i luv jesus' -really!

This is a very difficult problem to solve. Our society as a whole has evolved to produce a large quantity of deadbeats who don't do for themselves and consequently think the world owes them something. Our social systems are designed to take from those who "do" and give to those who "don't". These programs were started with the good intentions of "taking care of our own who can't" and have degenerated into a way of life for many who can exploit them. Alcohol and drugs have played a large part in this.
As far as not doing any harm, the gates and/or fence have been vandalized to gain access. So the harm started upon entry. IMHO if a property is fenced it should be considered posted. I can understand someone crossing an invisible property line without knowing it but a fence makes a statement. Posting signs at certain intervals should be an alternative to a fence. I have a mountian property that would be very difficult and expensive to fence. Fortunately the only trespassers I have had have been cattle running on open range. And the law says if I don't want them there I have to fence them out. The rancher has a lease on or owns adjacent property that is not fenced.
So what do you do to keep what is yours yours? I wish I had a good answer. Short of living on the property full time there is no good answer. And even living there isn't a 100% cure. You can still be violated. You can throw thousands of dollars at the problem and still not solve it. It's very very frustrating.

Is Brother Stair in jail or out at the moment? I know he was locked up for a while on all sorts of charges including hiding a dead body, kid touching, underage girl fondling and was in hot water for some sort of financial shenanigans.

Back several years ago a good friend had some of Brother Stair's toadies pilfer his elderly mother's savings. Well into six figures as well as we could determine. We were all set to make a trip down to South Carolina to *cough cough* make an attempted recovery *cough cough* but it was called off at the last moment. Probably a good reason as he was incredibly upset at the time and I was going not only as muscle and due to my prior background in dealing in such matters, but to try to keep him from ending up in prison. In one sense I was relieved to not go due to being worried for the long term incarceration status of my friend but I did really want to snoop around a bit too see how big of a scam operation they had going on.

Yeah, soon America will embrace Socialism!
That may not be a bad thing. Look at China, growing ecnomy, etc.

WHAAAAT????? where is reference to this? on the net? i happen to listen to brother stairs program on most nights.heave heard nothing about this.

"Back several years ago a good friend had some of Brother Stair's toadies pilfer his elderly mother's savings. Well into six figures "

if this is true- and theres no reason for me to doubt you- i am truly sorry for your loss. i will tell you something- back in the seventys some men in suits came to visit one of my grandmas, to get her to sign over some piece of property. it was a church property that was owned communally by all residents of a church in texas who lived there in the 1920s aroundabouts. she was deeply religios and wouldnt sign.
there are houses on that mt. carmel today; the church has burned down (by the govt; it was all over the news- know whichone it was yet??)our family never got anything out of it.
sorry to say thats not the only 'selling someone else's land" scam i have seen, even here, a neighbor sold our frontage (industrial property) off to DOT who in turn used what they wanted and sold the rest of frontage off to next door neighbor- who had the gall to point out to my mother that 'he' owned it now! (great- when someone gets injured on it, i know where to send them to sue!)i KNOW< i loooked up the survey on the dot sale. it is in the courthouse records for all to see.
that is not i feel the only time that people from the church has taken away things. the garbage hauling biz in michigan went to a family member, of the church, and the garbage container mini-rolloff, which i had hoped to be part of, went to someone who jsut kinda shmoozed his way into my fathers circle of friends-i think he is with the local branch of 'our religion'- at least he hangs aroudn with members of that denomination. i did not have a job at the time and have spent almost all of the last 11 years unemployed and looking for work- this 'pal' of his got the biz in ...'00...and he had lost his govt job. well, since then he bought his own shop, invested in land and now has a renter, at least one, bought a work truck, and has enough money to have a house and raise up his two boys, seems comfortable enough. me, i recently went up to a charity to get free food. i have made exactly zero money all year(oh boy, i get to send that in to IRS) and sad to say, thats not the only year i made zero money all year.but he's doing well im sure.
i know of other people in that church and some of thire dealings (stealings!) have been very questionable. guess what- i dont go to church anymore!I WONDER IF ANY OTHER PEOPLE IN THAT CHURCH 'CLIQUE' HAVE TAKEN ANYTHING ELSE AWAY FROM THIS FAMILY.
where i live there is a lot of people who i think are really sincere about thier belief, and im not saying all are bad, certainly some preachers with small denominations must be going week to week on faith not money, its just i feel so sorry for them because they cant possibly see what goes on in some sections of the church.they dont have a clue.
the big $$ churches have jobs and positions that naturally attract those kind of people who want that open piggybank, its no different than other institutions such as the local school system, someone took no less than (over!) 600,000 dollars in checks writtien to themselves, and thats not unique, a nearby police officer, and same nearby county govt office, they lal had thier hands in the public fund piggybank. i saved the article.
we didnt pursue the churrch battle for the mt carmel- my grandma is long since passed away but she wouldnt have anything to do with even checkeing into it- what she didnt realise that the church changes hands, it went into some peopel in the 70's that were very pushy, and of course that last guy who was in there kicked them out and he was very popular for this with the church members. of course, the govt burned them all up.
i wish there was a way to retrieve your friends earnings, but as i listen nightly i know that stair's programs are all over the shortwave, and on some fm and am as well, radio stations bills get paid inthe thousands of dollars, so there has to be a lot of money flowing in. DONT EXPECT THE LOCALS IN THE AREA TO WANT THIS FLOW OF DONATIOSN TO STOP.
i hear people with small shows that last months on the shortwave and i think a lot of them are sincere ministries, and they sometimes ask donations and that must be hard when no one answers. but i feel little for the big operatiosn that have big tv shows that are always crying for more, more money(grandma also watched and donated to the "jim and tammy fay baker" when they had that tv show). im sorry that i really dont have anything to tell you, i couldnt even point you in the right direction on this problem.

quint- i had a thought- could i pm you with a suggestion? i just dont feel comfortable to post it on this board now for anyone to see.

in case you never used a "pm'- its a 'private message' and the pm button appears below this message near the reply button. it is a way for me to email to you without me knowing your real email(respects your privacy!)it also prevenst those spam mailers from picking up your email address.

Three-quarter-inch bolts

Use big three-quarter-inch diameter bolts with double nuts and long bolts.

How do you make gates trespass resistant? - Homesteading Questions
New Gate Hinge with 3/4" Bolts, 6" x 6" posts, 10" Long Bolts - Very Hard To Remove.

From another post of mine,

Quote:
Posts should be crammed into the ground with a big loader bucket full of gravel or better yet with the blade of a D-7 CAT, or bigger if you got it, with a 1/4 inch or bigger steel plate welded on the side. You weld just at the right height when the blade is on the ground.

Then you just drop the blade to the ground or wherever - all the same height and look real good and make a good sight line. You can cram in some real big posts that way. It goes real quick.

Well they should be strong and pretty big so they are not all whippy and spindly and break. Other than having to use good sized heavy duty treated posts, I think this is the best and quickest way to make lots of fence.

If you want some special treatment at the corners and gate, then drill in with a 12 inch diameter aguer, and set with good small gravel or road "mulch" or cement, like I did with my new double 16' wide gates for equipment entry to our place.

Alex,
That looks almost identical to my gate that got knocked down this spring. They simply tied a chain around the top of the post, the other end to their front bumper and backed up. They did this on both sides just to "punish" me for putting up a gate where they wanted to go.

An idea for you Norris

Norris, a suggestion, if you would like it, might be to use old electric/phone utility poles set in a hole several feet fixed in with concrete. If you feel it necessary, attach steel or iron straps to reinforce the posts to help resisit pulling down.

If that fails, post a sign that states that "any vandals found damaging the property will be shot on sight. No warning shots." And spread it around your area, if you so choose, that you have a caretaker that will be taking care of any future vandals and trespassers. Let it be known he has a habit of shooting people on sight.

Yes, this is very energy intensive and somewhat aggressive. However, when I casually mentioned to a friend in an area restaurant the fact that the next time I had some idiot trying to damage my gates or locks that I would make them look like swiss cheese, the one of the people whom I suspected, who was sitting nearby waiting to pick up his to-go order, turned white as a sheet and quickly left the establishment. I didn't have any problems for a couple of years after that with the gates or locks. But they did not get to mouthy when they taunted me as they didn't know when or where I might shoot them.

My happy ending is that the big troublemakers are now gone because the adjoining property has a new owner and I am much happier now. About 99.99% of the problems came from the landowner and his worker-tenants who aren't there anymore.

If it gets bad enough, drop some large rocks near the gateposts on the outside, if that is reasonably possible to do, and place them far enough out that they would need a very long chain to hook to the posts and truck bumper.

Only if you feel up to doing it would I suggest that you disable their vehicle in a manner such as putting some projectiles through the radiator and engine block and tires. My solutions are forceful only because I exhausted the peaceful ones after several years of trying them to no avail. I was left with only the more agressive ones.

its really too bad- to have neighbors like that. it amazes me that the landowner was involved...but perhaps he was simply ignoring what his employees did? i have noticed a lot of bosses simply let employees walk all over them.
the other thing- the system greatly favors those who are troublemakers. the fact that some even brag about it should tell all of you something. that they get away with it again and again.
remember the police as an agency is funded not just by 'tax dollars' but on a grant basis thru a middle man agency whose name i forget. these agencies have some forgettable name and are partially supported by the insurance agency biz and others.
i hear that social services and related get 4,000 for each child taken from the family, and the court system so much $ for each conviction, etc. thsi determines the FUNDING for that branch of the police in general.
locking up tresspassers must cost money not 'make it'.
like i said- our local 'posting law' waas lifted n the 70's. gotta keep all those lawyers and court personnell employed you know.
people like your tresspassers keep them in business.

I don't recommend doing anything that could injure anyone or damage a vehicle. If you are not in residence, or worse, when you are in residence, you could be inviting retribution of one kind or another.

My feeling about my land is that the best way to keep the peace and goodwill with the natives is to simply ignore tresspassing for now, as long as nothing is damged.

If they want to hunt it go for it. I'm not going to be able to stop a determined hunter no matter what I do. Why make trouble? When I build and move there, I want friends not enemies.

Now, if you are philisophically oppsed to hunting, that's another story and another discussion, maybe even a heated one. hehehe

That is ALWAYS a bad thing. Look at their repressed, impoverished people.

Actually, America has embraced socialism light since the 30s. It is now embracing a heavier handed version. Soon it will be full blown police state.

inside the gate, place 2 6' sections of I beam together in a "V" shape, mouth towards the gate. Leave room to open gate if it swings inward. Weld a half dozen rebar, about 2-3' long to the I beams, angled inward. Cover with high grass or brush. chances are the vehicle will still be impaled when you get there. On the other hand claymore mines work great too.
OilPatch, you're a putz. You sound like one of those self indulgent idiots that thinks the world owes them something. You feel you have the right to blithley avail yourself of someone elses property that you contribute nothing towards, taking only, and wonder why people are upset by you? Please, stay where you are. Selfish people like you would only ruin the soil quality of my fields by burying you under it.

quint- i wish to thank you for the brother stair info. i know that sounds odd as i have been a listener of stair for many years now; but i didnt wish to worry about any rants from me.a lot of people are so closed minded they will not consider anything outside thier small view of the world. if you read my pm, it may sound stupid, but most everytime i researched something thouroughly i found amazing things. i just didnt want you to feel that i sent you a big lecture on stair.i just know a lot of stuff about how people milk the legal system down around here.

bladesmith- oilpatch is obviously thriving on the attention- see the tactic of bringing up one of the two classically inflammitory topix.(remember the saying- never discuss religion or politics)-its sure to getr a rise out of someone.

there are no really good solutions to all of this. we have not only been tresspassed here, but recently vandalised and robbed (they came back at least 3 times!!!!!probably many more to do the damage that they did)
at my father's shop, a few months after he died. i guess they felt that the man of the house is gone now, the women are just weak, we can do as we please....now if that doesnt make your blood run cold, i dont know what will. and of course the police cant really do anything constructive.
worrying about retribution will get you nowhere, as they are going to do it anyway.
ps- i really like the ibeam idea!!!and its such a good 'back at ya'- no vehicle can be damaged unless they remove the gate first! what a fun thought!

i hate to point out the obvious, but has anyone considered renting a few beehives? that nice flat area inside your gate would be a perfect area to raise a homegrown product to sell at a roadside stand.

i have read the stair info and find it upsetting. have listened to the show and tho i know he was in prison, i didnt know what for.
i dont know what to say- or who to believe, btu i can say that the events described by the girls are a very familiar scenario.there are men that take advatnage, or try to , all over down here. from experiencei tend to believe you quint.
stair himself finally mentioned that 99% of the stuff on internet is false, except that he commited the sin of 'adultery'. my question is how much of this was consensual since the girls were so young, and they were church followers at his complex.really.
as i said, this is very common down here.i hate to think of what might happen to a young girl who refused advances down to the wrong man here in churchtown USA.
well i listend to stair for a long long time now for comfort; but thanks for the heads up quint. i dont know what to say.
