Put up a fence!!!! I can't imagine what you are thinking. You've doomed one dog, are you starting a business for road pizza? !!

I'm sure you read earlier that she was hit by the farm truck going out to the barn.

Why be in a hurry ?

Pick the dog that you want.

What kind of dog do you really need, and find what kind of dog
fits your program and needs.

Every one has likes and dislikes black or white and of those in between.

Shop around and find out what your family wants, because they will be the ones taking care of it not someone else.

I too would never own a rott with kids. My neighbor has one and that dog worries me. he's great with his owners (they are both elderly). But he has snapped through the fence at the kids before. I worry what would happen if he ever got out. Right now he seems too dumb to try. And I also know that our lab would die protecting the kids. He already has a major dislike of the rottie and if the kids go near the fence he herds them away. If I go near the fence he attacks the rottie through the fence (something about me being pregnant I guess makes him more protective). We've had to pull these two dogs apart several times already when they have managed to get out and at each other. The rott has our lab by a good 50 lbs but our lab pinned the rott by the throat last time before we could separate them. He earned a few stitches for that and the rott limped for several weeks. A german shepard is another fog I would not have with kids. We had one when I was growing up and I got 18 stitches from that dog.

Speaking or rotts. Someone evidently dumped a rott mix of some sort out yesterday. I was down getting the mail yesterday evening and the ---- thing came charging out of the ditch with the intent to liberate large sections of my flesh from my body. I was standing by the mailbox looking through the mail and the beast exploded out of the brush. I dropped the mail and reached for the pistol I usually carry but I had changed pants earlier and hadn't put it back on. That is a horrible feeling to be in a dangerous situation and reach for your protection and realize it isn't there. I barely got into the truck in time. The thing actually bounced off the door of the truck trying to get me. About gave me a heart attack.

It seems like when they get too dangerous or difficult to control they just dump them in the country. It seems to go in phases and is on the upswing again unfortunately.

All dogs are individuals IMO. I have a Rott/Pitt female that is totally gentle & trustworthy with kids. She is 11 & she's been around several generations of grandkids, nieces, nephews, & neighbor kids without a single bit of aggression. Those kids have pulled her ears, hit her with sticks, tried to ride her, & stolen her toys, but she has never shown the slightest bit of aggression. She can be slightly aggressive towards adult strangers. She barks untill she recognizes them, or not. She doesn't like squirrels or cats, but she gets along fine with my Mom's toy Yorkies & my Sister's small mutt. I've seen her become very aggressive when a man became abusive towards my wife at a car wash. Dixie scared the poop out of that loudmouth before I had a chance to.She's the best dog,by far, that I've ever had, but I never mention her true bloodlines to strangers because of the widespread prejudice towards Rotts & Pitts. When I'm asked about her pedigree I just say that she's a mixed breed. I'd love to find another Rott/Pitt pup while Dixie can still help train it.

Probably just as well you didn't have your boomstick with you. You'd of just shot yourself in the leg.

I had a Rott mix attack me and I threw up my arms and yelled "DOWN!!!!" I've never seen a dog stop so fast in all my life. You could see it thinking "****! This dog is bigger than me, maybe I should leave it alone."

Nah. I practice a lot so I don't shoot myself. I had a rifle in the truck like always but that truck looked a veeeerrrryy long ways away when by instinct I reached behind my back and felt nothing there. Once I got in the truck I took appropriate action but boy was that a long scramble. I'm just glad I hadn't locked the door or something. A dog chomping on my backside as I was trying to find the keys would have been pretty embarrassing. Plus I would imagine it is hard to do first aid on your own butt.
