I would much rather go back to the way things were before the income tax. That's right. We got along just fine for years and years without the government confiscating income. The current tax system is just wrong an so many levels. Nobody, millionaire or not, should have 30-60% or even more of their money confiscated by the federal and state governments. There is something desperately wrong when the government can lay claim to your paycheck or even more reprehensible - your estate when you're dead. What could be more foul than after your death the federal government lining up (first in line mind you) with their hand out like they were an heir. Despicable.
We got along for years without an income tax. Go back to tariffs and excise taxes. Not enough income to support the bloated federal government? Awwww. Too bad.
The main problem with a sales tax is that it will be WAAAAAY too high. It should be no more than 10% and 3-5% would be more palatable. Even worse would be congress enacting such a system without repealing the 16th amendment and also abolishing all federal withholding. ALL OF IT. No social security shell games. All of it. Unfortunately that would require the feds admitting the SS system is a mismanaged ponzi scheme that if run by a private company would result in prison terms for those running it.

I guess I live in the wrong state because we pay high taxes on everything, time and again. Our property taxes and personal property taxes (cars, etc.) have jumped so badly in the past 5 years that it's rediculous. Just the taxes on owning a nice car would make you change your mind. How can they tax you every year for owning something? How many times do you have to pay taxes on the same vehicle? But it's something like 7% of it's value every year. Of course our local school board has gone crazy with building fancy buildings (not decent education, but nice buildings). They even put in a half-million dollar artifical turf on the high school football field! I kid you not! Of course, they stupidly forgot parking so you have to walk to the fancy stadium. Crazy! And what the smazz is all this interest in high school plays? We built a $3 million Performing Arts Theater building (still no parking), but then every small town in Missouri seems to have done the same thing. What's that about? What was wrong with the high school gym? Are all the kids going to be Movie Stars or something??? (Sorry, excuse my rant.)

Air...unless you buy it in one of those little aerosol cans to blow the dust out of your computer. Then you pay sales tax. Not much left is there?

In Missouri garage/yard sale purchases are not taxed as far as I know. I just hate taxes in any way, shape or form. Honestly, income taxes are bad, but if you swap that out for a 23% federal tax, that is even worse. That would make a total of 31.225% tax on items where I live when you combine the 7.225% tax rate for the state, county and local tax rates.
The more taxes we pay, the less we actually buy. This also encourages secondary and underground markets along with higher tax evasion rates.

Taxes themselves are taxed. For example when you buy a tire you pay a federal excise tax (used to be about 2 dollars). Then you pay sales tax on the price of the tire and on the federal tax.
Take a look at you phone bill. I suspect that you have several calculations of taxes and fees added to the total which itself is taxed.

Homebrew beer!
I don't pay taxes on the yeast, hops or malted barley as they are all food products in Texas!
Ah, tax free beer!

We used to play a game in my History classes when I was still teaching. I would ask the students to name an item that wasn't taxed: directly or indirectly. Not once did the students or their parents come up with something that wasn't taxed; from clean air and water, to the "free" firewood they cut on national forest land.
What is worse is that even the minds of people are shaped by the news media and public education so that even the thoughts we think are taxed by the government.

And Income as bad as the sales tax is here in TN we have no income tax, wheel tax is modest my tags for 3/4 ton were $81 and also all of the sales tax is now a deduction could be worse
If we can just get rid of the TennCare and Medicare Government does not belong in healthCare
I am in favor of "pay as you go for what you use" for example charge tolls to all non-residents and charge residents one time annually for the mileage on vehicle past 12-months

I agree, I own a backhoe that I use to do work for friends and such and barter instead of a check.. $50.00 an hour if by check, $35.00 if cash or barter.. This way the "THIEVES" won't get any... I'm tired of the corruption in goverment and the frivalous spending they do, who spends $73,000.00 a year on meals, one of our "goverment agents" did in PA and then tried to justify it.. and the mass public just goes along with it...

Boy did I have to look long and hard to find an American flag that was made in America. I just had a problem with buying an American flag made in China.

Aren't postage stamps a tax of their own to move the mail via government?
I agree the government does stupid things with tax dollars, but I cannot say I do not benefit in any way. After all, I use the roads, I have access to 911 service, I got a public school education, I enjoy buying and eating safe food from a local grocery, etc.
