re northern lights

We went out about 10:30 last night to look for them (we're in SW Mo also...about 30 minutes from the AR line) and there they were! Took time out to get rid of a marauding 'possum that killed a couple of chickens a couple of days ago. The lights were still there when I got too cool (in my pj's)about 11. They were green this time and saw several spikes over the half hour. Last year we saw them farther north in Mo and had some red in the spikes then. Gonna try again tonight.

Has anyone watched the space station go around n round? We have several times and that's pretty cool too.

I'm fortunate to be in a norther latitude and well away from any big city lights. Thus the Northen Lights are amazingly bright and beautiful to see. I'm always impressed by this. I wish those who could see this appreciate the awsome nature about it all. Those who can't simply reflect on what insignificance we really are on this planet, and should steward it on a favorable environmental course for all.

I just checked for them here tonight when I filled up the furnace, but I can't see them. Wish I had known last night. I did get to see them last year when there was a sun storm. Incredible green and red, I got the kids out of bed to see it, but I do that for meteor showers and eclipses too, who cares if they are sleepy at school? I'll check one more time before I go to bed, but I don't think I'll be lucky tonight.

Herself shot a buck this evening just before dark and came home to get me to help her find it. It was kind of neat to be dragging in a fat buck under the Northern Lights. Real primative. Real primal.

Does anyone remember Sputnik? My Pop pulled us out of bed to look for it. That was truly exciting!

Here is a website people might find helpful. They give daily reports re: when to look for the northern lights and other events. There are also many beautiful photos posted.

Enjoy!

Rockpile, we saw the SS and the shuttle at the same time also.

I get an email from spaceweather.com that lets me know what and when to look for in the sky. That way if I get too sidetracked with life it reminds me to take a few minutes and enjoy the wonders .

I saw them both nights about 100 miles SE of Cincinnati, first night I was making a dash for the backhouse and nearly had an accident . The second night I was prepared and sat out a while. First time I've seen them in 30 yrs.

I think I may take the prize for the furthest southern sighting. Sunday night I got off at the hospital at 11, got home near midnight and was ready to hit the hay about quarter to 2. DH took one last look out the north door to our bedroom loft and said "you've got to see this." It was an incredible show of red and yellow/white light in undulating beams. I thought it was a sign from God. Never thought about seeing the northern lights in southern Oklahoma.
