Well I found the Countryside board from Vicki I think, I only just subscribed to the mag a few months ago. My loss. I did enjoy reading the link Chuck posted about the closing of the old board. Not that I don't miss that format (OK this one is better!)

I'd like to make a point I picked up from that old post. To quote Ken as he answers a question about the new board and administrator, "What do you see happening to the forum under a new administrator? This is my personal opinion only. Unless the new administrator takes full and firm control from the start, the forum will self-destruct within a year, if that long. " There's a lot of truth in that quote and HT has the scars to show for it. I'll take scars, and imperfect, I'm thankful for the firm control, because I've seen the softer, kinder side of it whether I was supposed to or not, and the results here show what can be done by the right person doing the job. I've never been short on the thanks I offer Chuck, it even extends into helping out around here. Ken knew what he was talking about and that was pretty obvious all along too. I'm particularly glad Ken wasn't so jaded from his mod duties back then that he wouldn't take on the Cattle board. Through talking with many of the other moderators here I do know it isn't always smooth sailing. I know all the mods get a thanks now and then, its a pleasant surprise and does make it all worthwhile. I share mod duties with Moopups and Blu3duk, Mitch and William on the Shop talk board. Its good to know you've got guys like that to take point. I have two very friendly boards to tend, with a few exceptions and I'm sure most of the other mods would agree we all have it easy. Well except for the GC mods. I know GC is a relief valve, a free speech forum where you can hollar (just about) anything you want. I know I wouldn't want their job if it paid the winter's wood pile. I make a point to thank them when I can, and I can now. Thank you! ............ Thank you thank you thank you!!!! :worship: :worship: :worship: and to those who can find nothing better than to make work for them............ yeah I guess they did ask for it!

I can't list all the people here who participate on these boards and have helped me and others so selflessly and with such style, grace ,humour and affection that not only do you not not normally see online but are only blessed to find now and then anywhere. I've been to a lot of bulletin boards and few match the depth to which this one makes a difference. You guys do it all and should be proud of yourselves.

So we're approaching 8000 registered users, even with renamed users and lost passwords that's still darned impresive. We should throw a party, sell T shirts and hats, bake cakes and handstitch up a flag or two........ or if you're all busy we could wait for 10,000 users. Hmmmm that could be spring, how about 12,000 I'll be done planting by then!
Take Care All

Ding dong...I was at the old Lusenet and remember how many times the site would go down and someone had to physically go over and reset things, but I still liked the simplicity of the site and loved the "smallness" or community we had.

But it is nice too to meet all the newcomers and who knows, MAYBE we'll start a movement...reminds me of Alice's Restaurant song...oops!

Showing my age there!

I post some, lurk some, and sometimes stay away for a long time, then get to wondering what everyone is up to and have to come visit!

Y'all take care now,
Sidepasser

Ding! Still Jim in Mo just like the old days. I rarely post any more mostly read. It’s good to see the growth. I too want to thank Chuck for all the hard work for keeping us going and to thank Ken for putting up with all of the grief and threats from the old days. It was sad to go through the days of self-destruction and anger that the old forum went through but I really think that as a whole we have grown from it. Not only in size.

I go way back too, way before Chuck and when there were under 75. Is it me or does it seem like yesterday in one way, and in another way like a lifetime ago? Wow, have we come a long way! Just since the move from Lusenet...gesh!! First we had to get use to a new site (really quickly ), new software, the hacker, another move, more new software. But we've survived and did what we needed to do! We all hate change, but have made it through and settled in and now can look forward to next set of challanges! They are always out there just waiting. But that's what keeps life interesting! LOL! :haha:

Been here (and there) since 1999. I miss some of the folks from there: Brad (homefixer in Maine); Earthmama, who moved to town; Sheepish; and even Joel (in his Dr. Jekyl persona ) to name just the first few that leap to mind. Some might be here, but I haven't been able to recognize them among the crowd. I was so pleased that the relatively new Chuck (my hero) stepped up and took care of the forum when it was suffering and Ken (my other hero) had had enough - and look at the forum now! Too cool!

Ding

I don't post much but read everyday. I've been here since then and remember the fiasco.

Ding! Obviously, this board fills a need - if the HT POV wasn't needed there would be no posters nor lurkers.

Thanks Chuck and Mean Dean for all your hard work.

I have been here since Lusenet too.
Being off grid keeps online time low, but I enjoy popping in as often as I can.
