Yep, I was on Lusenet also. When it was the Countryside forum. My username was Steve in SW WI. I think. Anyway, we lived in Wisconsin then.

I think I became member #20 and my wife, Neva, was #21 on this new forum as of May 9, 2002. Was glad to see that Chuck archived all the stuff from the old forum. This format is much, much better. We don't post that much, but we learn alot!

DING DING DING. There were only 100 folks back then. Same name for me too. It's been 5 years since I got my computer in 99, and started on the Countryside forum. Remember how freaky all that Y2K stuff was in the 99 issues of Countryside. I remember that I was NOT ready for the power to go out. I remember when I went up to the North American in Louisville years ago, and found the Gemini Goats sign and found Bernie, and said "I'm Cindy in KY!"

And I was soooo excited to have Ken use the pics of my cows in the Countryside issue with raising dairy cows for beef. Way cool. I had gotten Countryside like 10 years I think, and then, poof, just email pics.

I have learned soooo much on the forum, especially all the meds & wormers for the animals, stuff you'd never learn from the vets. And how to fix my roof. I think it was you, Moopups, who said to paint my metal roof with the cheap black goo, and you know what, it worked! This place is a living Homesteading encyclopedia.

Thanks Vicki, Bernie, Diane, Ken & EVERYONE, love ya and wouldn't wanna be without ya all.

CHIME! I found the old forum back when there were only a few dozen active posters. I used my real name. I got my own homestead in the meantime, thanks to everyone I've met on these forums over the years!

I'm a Lusenet Oldie also, I'm another that didn't post much but read everything, remember all the arguements and the trolls. Back then there were so few of us and now like Mitch pointed out we are coming up on 8.000,
guess "homesteading" is gaining in popularity.

I'm also an oldie. Didn't post but about twice or three times, but read everyday just as I do here.

Great info here, it's very addictive!

I was on Lusenet as well. I found the site in January, 2000. I miss the old place, despite its problems.

I was there. I actually came to via the TimeBomb2000 LUSENET forum, since my job at the time was Y2K project manager for my IT department. When (due to all our hard work and preparation) Y2K fizzled and the forum did so too, I found the Countryside forum.

As for names - yes, it's my real name, but I wouldn't do that any longer if I lived in the USA. There's a little too much danger of identity theft these days, although just going with a first name should be OK.

Had fits trying to get used to this new form but I love it now! :worship: When my computer gets turned on this is the first place I go every day. Anyone remember when the old forum first started up? My memory aint so good anymore. Is there anyway I can find out the date that I joined that site?

Amazing! We have gathered 24 new members since I posted this thread, evening before last. Is the system program able to handle such growth?

One thing that would help is for those who have the 'quote' box checked in their reply area, to turn off the quote repeater. This is a small percentage of posters but the space could be saved. If your posts display the original post above your words it is turned on.

I wasn't on the old forum, but I've been on this one for a while. I find this talk of trolls disturbing because it seems to suggest hostility towards anyone that is new & may not aggree with established opinions. I also find it curious that very few people on here ever welcome newcomers to the forum. Is This a closed club?
