If the governemnt asked you to care for this horse and then found the guy who owned it not guilty, then THEY, that is THE GOVERNMENT should pay for your care and expenses and the guy should get his horse back.

I personally think he should be compensated for his loss of enjoyment and invasion of privacy by the same government.

If he is guilty, he should be responsible for payment, and should be forced to sell the horse. Perhaps he could sell it to you as payment for services. That is his choice. The animal still belongs to him.

I don't need some animal rights activist coming on my property, siezing my animals, dragging me and my family through the courts, then saying "oops, we made a mistake ... not guilty." Then they have the NERVE to demand payment for the boarding of MY ANIMALS. Give your head a shake.

Pete

I dont see the contention here... they put out a call for volonteer foster care and you accept, your not owed any payback for services.

Are you allowed to see whos getting the horse and know where its going?

people who foster dogs and cats dont get to keep them BUT they are given first chance to adopt them. these horses were seized, thereafter no longer the property of the owner.... if they are guilty.
for some moronic reason they found him NOT guilty... see that throws the whole thing on its head..... not guilty=he gets his anmals back.
of course he smelled profit in the wind, hold out long enough and someone will offer you 3 times their value to keep you from having them.
I know enough local hjosepeople a broken fence and a trip in the night would be all that was ever seen of the horse.... remote farms and deep wooded pastures, they wouldnt ever find the horse, if it wasnt branded or tattooed. Ive seen them try!

if you as a volonteer "lost" the horse.... your not held as liable.
thats the advantages of remote living and a network of rabid horse lovers.

if they pay a high price, I doubt the horse will be neglected again.

ya did good painterswife... *hug*

Painterswife i want to say THANK YOU and if their were more people like you in the communities i would be out of a job. I am proud of you and even though i do not know you i feel i must say a few things on your behalf to the two people that have left so many negative posts on here.
First of all i am a deputy sheriff that has had to be involved in cases such as the one you have been involved in. So i say to bumpus and superdupperchickenman you are prime examlpes of persons who find a conspiracy behind every tree. If you do not want the government in your business do not do anything to cause us to come.
Second your support of the man who did this to these animals makes me wonder how the animals on your homestead are cared for or are you even a homesteader or just serach this forum as well as other forums looking for somewhere to voice your viewpoint.
Third we all know that just because a man is found not guilty does not mean he is innocent by any means, the over stressed judicial system at it's finest. If this man was so not guilty or a victim himself of this wicked horse thief that you have badgered on here then why did he not ask the judge on the day of his aquittal to instruct the sheriff's department to return his property imediately ( which he could of done and the judge would have done it believe me ) this would have gotten his property back to him and out of the hands of the people who were assisting or being assisted ( depending on which one of you all are posting ) by law enforcement to keep his horses. The sheriff' deputies would have been required to transport the horses back that day. OR DID HE JUST REALIZE THAT A HEALTHY HORSE SELLS EASIER THAN AN UNHEALTHY ONE!!!!!
Fourth i must say that you two have posted alot of bible scripture and it is for sure that you know the words but i am not sure that you know what they mean. So as a christian i feel that you have left one out that i would like to say to painterswife for you "turn the other cheek" looks like you are going to need it when dealing with those two.
Well i will close for now and let you say what you will have to say to me but remember i have already heard it all in the line of duty before from people like you say daming words to people who mean you no harm and are just trying to help in their community but when they speak up to you you cry foul thats not fair.
I will quit rambling now and i hope you two do the same respectful thing for the rest of the forums posters who have tired of your ramblings.

Wink

Well spoken SAFEHAVENFARMS,
Religion has its place, but as usual it creates more havoc in the world in nearly every case.
Fanatics from either side, will only see their side as correct.
Those who rescue people, or animals are due only the repect they have earned.
Pompous religous freaks who look down on others, have something missing of their own, they need to look deep inside and question the reasoning of their own thoughts.
For the rest of us, just pity them, for they know not what they say.
Dumb animals come in all sizes and shapes.

Right now I think I am doing the "Happy Dance"

How wonderful! I'm so happy for you and your horse!

Getting back to the human perspective, I'm sure I'd feel much like Painterswife if I took on a suspected victim of child neglect. I'd feed it, pet it, nurture it, love it and hate like heck to give it back to the rightful parents, but I know that it would be the right thing to do.

As a foster parent, I've done just that (only it wasn't suspected, it was verified). It's the hardest thing in the world, but you do what you can to provide love and safety while you can, and let go when you must. And I'd be as happy (if not happier) as Painterswife if I were able to keep some of those kids!
