Why don't y'all just get a pile of rocks and stone her to death while you're at it for being an angel to that poor horse. How dare she help it when it needed her so and by, gosh, if she insisted on helping it, how dare she fall in love with it. Her crime has been compounded because she dared also to believe it Jesus while she did it. Shame on her. Never mind the rocks, just shoot her and put her out of YOUR misery.

Animal abuse
Painterswife, I think you did a great thing by saving this filly from the poor physical condition her owner had allowed her to devolve to. And I agree that just because he was found not guilty doesn't mean he was innocent of neglect - the animals themselves are all the proof that is necessary for that to be a fact!! Ignore Bumpus - it appears that most on this thread understand and applaud your motivation, and I know that had I been in your shoes I would have first felt the same sense of outrage and miscarriage of justice that the bastard was getting his horses back; and secondly I would definitely have an attitude of, "Fine! You can have her back, but you're gonna by-God pay me for bringing her back to life after you tried to kill her, you rotten SOB!"
Way to go, and congrats on getting to keep her! It's all about the horse...

I don't understand why there was even a possibility of the horse going back to the guy who didn't take care of her. It seems that every time I have heard about dogs and cats that are taken away from people who abuse or neglect them, the dogs and cats end up with new owners who love and care for them. Why should it be any different for horses?

I've watched this thread develop without responding but I do have some questions and comments.
I imagine that there was some reference to this matter reported in the news, seems like there always is in cases like this. Can you link us to a report?
While I feel for the OP, when I put this in human terms: ...a child suspected of child abuse, not being properly cared for, malnourished, no recent hair cut, suspected druggie parents... The county steps in and takes the children away, farms them out to foster parents. Volunteers, much like Painterswife. Loving, generous, caring people wanting only the best for the children.
The parents go to court and are found not guilty of the accusations or have agreed to education and behavior modification, mandated and overseen by the courts...
How many of you would advocate for parental termination, especially when the suspected person is found NOT GUILTY by a jury of their peers or by a supposedly impartial judge?
I know many of us have stories both ways, over-reaching child welfare caseworkers, as well as some that couldn't be bribed to do their jobs. Nosy, judgemental folks, neighbors, with half the story, turning in their neighbor to child welfare for having their electricity shut off.
Without dragging religion into it, it does seem that it would be best for all around to just quietly go to the utility company and pay to have them reconnected. Offer a bit of help, without making off with someone else's kids.
Without knowing more about the other side of the story, I sorta feel a bit of compassion for the guy. First to have the critters hauled off, then being found not guilty. I would expect that the same folks that took the animals should return them. I doubt he even knows or is told where they have all been disbursed to for privacy reasons. Even if he CAN locate the animals, he may not have access to a truck and trailer to gather up his animals, and maybe spent his wad on defending himself against false charges.
I've lived in the country nearly all my life, long enough to understand that there are different standards of animal care and we're not all going to see eye to eye on what is the correct way to care for a particular critter. Ever seen a feed lot? They disgust me and I would never knowingly consign an animal I raised to conditions like that. I've seen suburban horses that are fat and unused and I've seen working horses that are very lean. Who's to judge?
Mal-nourishment questions should be left to professionals, able to do blood tests to determine if there really is a problem. I would think that take more than an eyeball examination in most cases. Winter coats are designed to fall out, every spring. Worms are a fact of life, and can occur even if one is proactive in their treatment. One year old colts, especially in a group, are often a bit wild because they are just too young to work with at that age unless you have lots of time on your hands.
Nothing against anything anyone has said on this thread, just some other ideas I hadn't seen expressed.
Getting back to the human perspective, I'm sure I'd feel much like Painterswife if I took on a suspected victim of child neglect. I'd feed it, pet it, nurture it, love it and hate like heck to give it back to the rightful parents, but I know that it would be the right thing to do.

Hello
I am hoping this does not stir up any more problems but I wanted to update you on the situation.
It looks like someone else( I have no idea who) is buying the horses as a group. This person has made a deal with the horses owner's lawyer to purchase them( at an extremely inflated price- I am told). It looks like the county(who seized the horses) will be paying some of the feed leins at least up until they released the horses in court. I am unsure what will happen with the balance of the feed leins( 1 years worth), who will pay, if they will pay etc.
The horse is still at my house and will be at least for two more weeks until the county finalizes their part of the feed lein.
I am happy to know that the horse I came to care about( I tried not to)
will end up in a good home. So I am no longer sad!!!

That's great news! It's worked out well for all involved it seems. I hope that you will get enough of a reimbursal to do you some real good. Thank you for doing what you did. It was a kind, generous thing to do. It makes me feel good to know there are people like you who try to do what they can. Of course you cared about her. IMO, if someone cares enough to do what you did, they are going to have a hard time not caring "too much." Good for her. Sad for you.
Sorry for hijacking your thread for a crazy debate. I have a big mouth sometimes.

As my mammy used to say: "Never explain--Your friends don't need it and your enemies won't believe it."
You don't have to defend yourself at all.

I stopped frequenting this board because I couldn't stand watching Bumpus profane the name of Christ. First time back in a while and I see he's at it just as viciously as ever and now he even has help. It makes me rather ill. It's a wonder anyone remains on this board. If ya'll will humor me and take a look at some fruit:
Matthew 7:15-23
15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Galations 5:
19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
Interesting that everywhere Bumpus goes, hurt, anger, frustration and discord follow. I have yet to see ANY fruit of the Spirit in his posts. Not sure on SDCM but if these posts are any indication, he's in the same league as Bumpus. There's plenty more I'd love to say but from past experience, he won't listen anyway. Bumpus, you really need to spend more time in your Bible figuring out how to apply what you read and less time responding to posts.

Ok longshadowfarms you and ( many others ) accuse me of what ever but where is you proof ?
Type in some of my statements that are wrong according to you and tell me why you have come to that conclusion.
You accuse me of a lot of things but ( never have showed ) me where I am out of line or the Will Of God.
The Lord Warns Of False Accusers ! ! !
All I ever see is people who get mad because
They do not agree with the things I say.
Or say that I do not show The Holy Fruit of The Holy Spirit.
Gal:6:1: Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

Now that makes a lot of sense to me. That I can understand and follow. There are very different standards for the care of animals and the care of children for that matter. Sometimes the problem is one of social/eccconomic differences, as in when a bunch of midlle class city people misunderstand what's going on, or expect them to take care of an animal like a pampered pet, when it isn't.

Just plain mean-spirited!!!
Bumpus, you and SDCM come across as just plain mean - there is no compassion or love displayed in anything either of you post! You just want to yell and condemn and be hateful, and point out how everyone else is wrong. Interesting that y'all stand out on this board, when it seems a lot of the folks here profess a genuine love for Christ and are just as sweet and helpful as they can be. They're the ones who's testimony I'll believe, long before I believe yours. Those are the fruits you're lacking....

I know you do not read all of my post because many like
what I write about on many differents fourms.
I can not speek for others, only myself.
I don't call people bad names.
I don't agree with everyone.
I don't try to walk on egg shells.
I try to answer other peoples question and supply info for others to read
If they do not like my answers that is up to them.
No I do not say I love you all of the time.
I save most of that for my loving wife ! ! !
I am not mad at anyone.
I don't always have a way with words that suits everyone, but I do want to Let God's Holy Word ( Jesus Christ under the leadership of The Holy Spirit ) have his way with me ! ! !
I don't scream and holler at any one.
But I do write bold letters and underline things
to bring out my > expressed points <.
Gal:5:19: Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20: Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21: Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal:5:22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23: Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24: And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26: Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

bare, as always, your style and eloquence is a breath of fresh air. It's nice to get some input from a different viewpoint that is well written and without judgement, just nice clear words. It's nice to seeing you around a bit more than we have in the past.

Today is a sad day:
Hello Painterswife,
Hooray!! Party, Party!!You did the best you could, just like anyone else would have done, that has any compassion for animals, expecially those who are being mistreated, starved to death and left to die at the hands of a drug addict who did not even have the decency to remove the dead horses who had died to worms, disease and starvation not to mention what else.Shame,Shame,Shame.
Jill you do not have to explain your actions to anyone. As long as you feel like you done the right thing, then so be it.Just keep doing what your doing and Ignore those who like to quote Biblical scripture and show forth no Love to mankind or God's Creatures.

I am happy for you that you are getting to keep the horse. But I am most of all happy for the horse that she is getting to stay where she is loved and properly cared for. Some people can own a hundred horses and never learn how to take care of them. And some people can defend the people that starve an animal or hurt it by saying it's their property to do what they want with it. But that does not make it right. An animal has feelings and communicates with you and sometimes they ask for you to save them and if you are a compassionate person you will do what you have to do to help. I know you weren't trying to get a free horse - you have a relationship with this horse now and it's about loving her and her loving you back. Good Luck!

Here is a link to the pdf file of a recent issue of a local paper.
There is an article "Horses find home" in it
The story is not completely accurate but close enough.
