Are you my mother, :haha: ? I could have written this post, honestly!

Also, I too felt like I would be a "lone" voice in some of the threads. Now, I know better! So glad to know that I am not the only "hedgie" out there.

Ah, home sweet home. You are so close to my folks. DH and I took the little one to Johnson's Shutins for his very first swimming session! I miss it so much there, so beautiful, so serene. Now I'm homesick!

Mjollner, Witchvox.com has a page with good definitions of many different types of paganism. It might help you put a name to the specific paths that you are interested in. I really like anything by Marion Green and Silver Ravenwolf, but those are geared mainly toward Solitary Hedge Witches and Green Witches. There are many great books out there! There is a new forum called PaganHomesteading.com that I belong to. Unfortunately, we are getting very little activity there, but if anyone is interested, it could be a wonderful place to gather! You can find me there under the screen name "Sweet Cicely".

Jessi, I just had to check out your link! Very cute name, and a great idea! I don't have any babies anymore, but I'm sure it would have been just my kind of place to shop! What fun to have a fellow Hedgie on board!

Back to the original subject of the beauty of the season between Lammas and Samhain, I wish you were all here to look out my window right now. The trees are absolutely on fire with color, and at this very moment, the sun is setting with streaks of violet, pink and gold! Kind of takes your breath away!

The thin veil of Samhain is refreshing and renewing and so many people need it more than ever. I just looked at some posts about Halloween and thought some were silly. Halloween is a social construction just like Christmas. Some are quicker to blame society for the consumer take-over of Christmas but still want to blame the devil for the stupidity Halloween has become. What say you Pagans?
Another Christo-Pagan checking in here. I absolutely LOVE this time of the year - it has always been my favorite, even as a child.

I know I've seen that Pagan Homestead site, but just tried to go there and got nothing.

Is it up and running?

AngieM2

Just found it here by using google:

I don't know anything beyond what I have just read here about paganism. I surely identify with a lot of what has been said. I will have to look further. My salutation of choice is often "Happy new day." and when asked how I'm doing I nearly always respond with "Each day is a gift." I have long felt spiritual, but not religous. Perhaps there is more to my love of this time of year than I knew. Thank you.

Like others who have posted, we are coming into my favorite time of year, between Samhain and Yule. We don't celebrate xmas as I am pagan and Kevin is agnostic. I guess I would consider myself Wiccan without the physical trappings. But I have lately begun studying Asatru, as I have mostly germanic heritage. (I have read OldJohn's posts with much interest and even printed out some to put in my info notebook! ) It's nice to see so many poke their heads out of the "broom closet!"

I will probably celebrate by just being out in our woods and thinking. My grandmother passed away in Feb, but since she was a christian who continued to hope I would return to her faith, I'm not sure how to honor, for lack of a better word, her memory at Samhain. I wasn't really close to her, so does anyone have any suggestions? She's pretty much the first in my family to pass away.

Yes, it is tiring to have paganism consistently connected with satanism, expecially in the knowledge that a lot of pagans don't even believe in satan. Pagans are just people, like everyone else. I mean, I have three bumper stickers on my car: my college one where I attend nursing school, a blessed be, and "I'm the NRA and I vote." Just ordinary folks who have holidays that are just as meaningful and precious to us as others. I have decided that I will not send out xmas cards anymore, because it's a holiday I don't celebrate. This year, I am sending out happy yule cards. Hopefully, it will be a balance between what I'm comfortable with and what won't get a lot of "save yourself before you go to hell" pamplets sent to me from my family!!

Sorry this seems so scattered, I always have little bits I want to say which have very thin connections to each other!

Blessed be, Laura

I always send out "Happy Holiday" cards instead of "Merry Christmas" cards. Hopefully, those cover everything for everyone.

I haven't been on HT for awhile and this is sure a nice thread to have come back in to! Yes, this too is my most favorite time of the year! I've been 'chomping at the bit' to get on my 1st horse and ride in the woods. And the colors are fantasic in the lower Rockies right now. I'm trying to plan a visit to friends down south to celebrate Samhain with them and I hope I manage to. I have been interested in Wicca for some time now but being a Solitare I find I wish I had someone to teach me more. I find it difficult learning this on my own. I've also incorporated Native American into my spirituality, given the area of the country I now reside in. Basically I practice what feels right for me.
I too am tired of the commercialism of Halloween, along with many other 'Holidays' celebrated in the US. Afterall, a Holy day (Holiday) is just that! But nuff negative said. I hope everyone enjoys the day - no matter what their beliefs. I look forward to this month all year and no matter what, will live it the best I know how and be grateful.
Peace to all and Blessed Be*
Michelle

Thank you...I'm quite passionate about it. I hand out my business cards everywhere (recycled paper of course :haha: ).

I don't remember who posted about the Yule cards, but I agree. No Christmas cards for us. I usually choose funny ones with a Happy Holidays theme. My entire family is Christian (true hedgie!) so I don't want to step on toes, cause a ruckus, you name it. That way I cover everyone, without being in your face. Especially since they mostly disagree with my faith.

Unfortunately the trees here are turning very well. Going mostly straight to brown (lack of rain). But that's okay...I can still feel the change in the air and I so love it!

I'm really pushing right now for fencing so I can get my first horse. I've wanted one my entire life and I feel that soon I will be able to fulfill that dream. Enjoy your rides About your teacher: it said said when the pupil is ready, the teacher will arrive. Prepare yourself and your teacher will find you.

We give out Christmas cards. As the years progress we tend to give more devotional cards with biblical verses that, imo, capture the awe of a God incarnate. It is fun to shop for them because , like everything else, the majority of what is available is commercialized or cliche. I love going through the humorous ones also. Our friends, who do not believe as we do, are given cards more in tune with their particular beliefs. This year I may make ours to give. I think that would be a wonderful challenge.

I don't know how Pagans got credited with the Judeo Christian devil. It would be interesting reading. If anyone has a good book to recommend from a historical persepective, I would be indebted to him or her.
well, the first book that came to mind was "the Christ Conspiracy"
this is perhaps the best book on how jesus was invented I have ever read !

as a former HPS , this was a book I had my students read once they got up in thier "pagan age" ( inother words once they got up to about 5-6 years in the faith and werent so all consumingly anti christian , as so many of the newer wiccans can be )
i could contribute tons on this thread,
but i guess i have a bigger concern , why dont i see more acvtivity on the pagan homesteading board? i would think it would be easier to relate all of this on one of the boards there, but i have stopped by there several times, and see so little activity...

Beth, don't give up on us at the Pagan Homesteading board! I've noticed that a few more people have joined since I mentioned it. Pythia (the moderator) had her baby prematurely (by the way, she is home, and baby Emily is doing well, and has been moved to a hospital closer to home), and has not been able to advertise the site much. If everyone suggests it to a friend, I'm sure we can build it into a really wonderful, active place to meet! I still love it here at HT, and would not want to leave my friends , but it's liberating to have another forum where we can post without ruffling any feathers!

Wink Tango and "Other" Pagans!

From a die-hard Christian to all other fellow organisms that make up the "One":

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (Matt. 5:8)

So many of you must be pure in heart - for in you I see God.

"The kingdom of God is not coming with things that can be observed...For, in fact, the kingdom of God in within you" (Luke 17:20)

Must be the reason that you all seem to glow as you "chat" here on this thread.

"But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of Christ dwells in you."

Christ-conscious or Cosmic-conscious is a matter of semantics and what you believe.

Happy "Holidays"

I opened this thread because I didn't have a clue in my clue bag as to what it was about.
I enjoyed reading the posts, although I don't know the language and what some of the references meant. Doesn't matter, because those of you who do know were the ones communicating. All communication isn't necessary for me to understand.
Anyway, I feel i have gained some insight about some of you and also about "religions".
Have a wonderful fall and take joy from all the holidays it brings.

I was hoping you would peek in and spread your love and wisdom here. Your posts help heal wounds that are deep and old and oozing in some of us every year about this time. Thank you for sharing your glow
