I picked some crates up at an auction and the guy had used them for some of his tack when going riding. He cut a piece of plywood a bit larger than the opening and put cleats on it so it would not fall off and drilled a 2inch hole in it to grab the plywood lid. He used several and had seats for friends around his campfire.

Sure miss that guy but do have a few of his treasures.

:haha: and I was beginning to think they were just a nuisance.
:worship: thanks for all the great ideas, I won't be throwing them out after all

My hubby just used one today after our (horse) tack crate was broken. He tied a rope to make an easy handle then fit three thin peices of plywood, to make a few seperate compartments. I told him I had just asked for different uses for the darn things, and had I known he was going to do that I would have asked him first :haha:

I "found" 70 of them when I first moved out on my own and made a bed, sofa and chair by gettingsome 4 inch thick foam. By turning the outside edge crates on edge I had under bed and under sofa book shelves.

Sew a slipcover. Attach a cushion on top, tie it down to the crate in the holes, cover with the slipcover. Extra seating, pretty storage.

I went to yahoo and typed in milk crate crafts. I found a site, showing a milk crate with 4 wooden table legs, a wooden drawer, and 2 pcs of meta in an x shapel on the legs for stability, selling for $1900. Its called "Milk Crate Table" Mitch Ryerson on www.guild.com.
