I refuse to eat any helpless defensless plant. Vegitables are the most innocent things on this planet.

I am a carnitarian. Eat meat only. I eat only things that prey on those poor vegies. Like this terrible beast called a "cow" which slaughters billions upon billions of flora each year. I figure if we weren't supposed to eat them... then they wouldn't be made out of meat.

I'm a 3rd generation lacto-ovo (dairy/eggs) vegetarian and my daughter will be the 4th... I have traveled around the world and have lived in or visited many third world countries and have never gone hungry. Being a vegetarian, or at least a lacto-ovo one is pretty easy, but being a vegan requires a whole lot more planning.

Oh and I'm not some hippy-dippy, tree hugger either :haha:

I have been a vegetarian-vegan for about 20 years off and on. I was vegan for a number of years, but when I became pregnant with my son, I suddenly craved meat and ice cream. Then I became vegetarian. Then I started lifting weights and so i started eating egg whites, some fish, and chicken breasts. I don't use dairy products. I'd be vegan except for my need for lots of protein due to lifting weights.

Talking

.
You may chose not to eat meat of any kind and that is fine.

But If you eat fruits, nuts, and berries
your not a real vegetarian.

A true vegetarian eats nothing but vegetables and nothing else.

I haven't touched a dairy product (knowingly-they sneak dairy into a LOT of foods) for over 3 years and softdrinks for over 2 years. I eat Buffalo when I do eat meat (not very often--its grass fed) and have been known to sneak a little pork out of the crockpot (come on, sauerkraut and pork!!), and I do eat chicken (on occasion). I could be a Vegan, because I have gone for a week or more without eating meat.

I'd read several sources that claim vegetarians don't live as long as omnivores.

I believe techinically any portion of a plant you eat is a vegetable. And of
course, tomatoes, peppers, and squash are technically fruits - the fruit being
the part of the plant containing the seeds. The tomato is a type of berry.
And just to add to the confusion, I think almonds and peanuts and hmm,
cashews? aren't botanically nuts.

Most people would also call grain-eaters (such as cows) vegetarians.
