You know, half these ideas I never thought of, and had "duh!" moments with. I've got chicks out there freezing their little chick butts off, and a pile of old feed bags.

Well DUH! Honestly, some days you can't see the forest for the trees!

sacks

My feed store gives me 15 cents back when I return them. It dose not sound like much but I return 60 to 70 at a time that will pay for more feed. Like BeeFree said, untie the string at the bottom of the sack and refold and lay flat.
Hope this helps. Jim

I don't think anyone has mentioned this:

Unfortunately feed bags and bags that hold things like grass seeds are increasingly being made of plastic woven materials. They may be less likely to tear, but they don't biodegrade without leaching PCBs.

My point is, that I've read where these types of bags can be filled with soil and used as raised bed gardens or container gardens. In fact, a group in chicago started rooftop gardens as a way to teach people to grow their own food while helping the environment in the city by lowering the temperature and increasing the amount of clean air in the city.

I believe somewhere in the following website you will find a way to donate feed sacks, and other things like seeds to this project. I am saving seed from my garden this year to send.
