After having foolishly bought two PPs and one low end Husqvarna, I can tell you one thing for certain...we will NEVER buy another of either brand, nor will we EVER buy another piece of any type of power equipment from any big box store.

We'll save up for however long it takes to get good quality FROM A DEALER...I'm so tired of lighting a match to hard-earned money.

Not really, say I buy a chain saw for 130 dollars, add on oil, gas and a spare chain So now I'm up to around 200 or so dollars, I saw 2 to 3 seasons of wood before the saw dies, that is 100 dollars a year to heat my home. Each year I cut between 4 an 5 cord. I bet a lot of people would like to heat their home up here in New York for around a 100 dollars a year. Yes I have my labor, But a years worth of wood doesn't take that long to cut up. Or I could buy an expensive chain saw, have the oiler die with in 2 years, pay for parts and labor to fix and I'm near the cost of a cheap throw away chain saw. (Some day I'll rip apart the expensive chain saw and fix it myself, just haven't had the ambition yet. Or just dip the nose into a bucket of oil and gun it before each cut to oil the chain as I was doing till I got the Poulan.)

My neighbor is an echo dealer.I have had my echo for several years with no problems.I saw oak,elm and ash.I keep four chains------two are at his place to be sharpened while I am using the other two.Big box stores sell junk. When I go to the woods,I want to saw wood----not monkey around with the saw.

I have a Poulan that was a refurb I bought from the Canadian equivalent of Harbour Freight (Princess Auto) for $79 with free shipping to PEI. It ran like crap at first but the more I used it the better it ran. I have used it a lot over the last couple of years and it's been fine. It certainly isn't for someone who's working in the woods full time but for someone like me who has to cut firewood or the odd tree down it's been just what I needed.

dirt seems to have more to do with chains getting dull than cutting for me

some times dirty logs , and some times chain contact with ground
I sharpen on saw with hand file and it helps with the chain to last some but mesquite is just a tough old wood to cut lol but it makes my barbq taste so good.
