I buy them once in awhile if the jackpot gets huge.
But only if it is over 200 million will I take that change at self taxation and then only by 10 bucks. You know what they say "You Can't Win If You Don't Play. LOL

To my mind, as I can play for free if I want, I have no excuse to pay to play.

Sometimes. Overall I'd have to say I'm up on the lottery tickets and my trips to casinos. I've never gone to Vegas but been to several of the ok casinos. I usually take about what I'd spend on a night out and drink and gamble in that. Normally I end up alittle down on the evening,$20, but I won $1200 on blackjack one night. Same with the lottery I'll buy a scratcher or power ball from time to time, done better on the scratchers. Won a couple hundred a few times on those, don't know that ive ever win more then $20 on powerball.

Nope! And I can't stand going to a customer service desk & having to wait on others wasting their money.

Can't remember last time we bought. But once in a while it's 'entertainment' & buy one & plan how to spend it.

The next time you feel the urge to gamble, just send the money to me instead. I will use it wisely.

No. I am better at math than that.

I bought a $4 ticket this weekend. Dreamed of what I would do with $7million: put up a 7 foot fence around the whole property, get Sweetie a backhoe with heating and ac plus all the attachments, 3 dexters- 2 cows and a bull, 4 finn sheep - 3 ewes and a ram, import some guinea hogs, pay the children $15 an hour to work for me, quit my job - but still help the families I see (home care), look after Mom and Dad, garden with all the toys, buy a car where we aren't bumping elbows and knees. I didn't have one number right, but it was fun to see what I really wanted out of life.

Could have done it without the ticket. Won't buy another one until I am in the mood to dream big.

We buy one every now and then (maybe 4 or 5 a year) because we happen to be in a store where they are sold. Just the $2 ticket and just for fun. Over the years we have won enough (free tickets, $10, $100 or part of a smaller prize equaling $70) to pay for our purchases.

We don't count on winning and certainly don't think of a win as a life plan like so many people - but no ticket, no chance.

We live in an isolated region with a total population of 30,000 and this year there was a $1 million winner, a $2 million winner and a work group that split a grand prize netting over $3 million each. About 25 years ago a co-worker won twice. First $1 million and then $100,000. She and her husband are still having fun with that money and they are just in their 50s. In Canada you get to keep it all - nothing goes to the tax man.

Some people buy all the time which is a waste of money and play the same numbers all the time. This is bad news because if you miss buying a ticket and that is the day your numbers are drawn - well that is the day your wife is going to be very annoyed as happened to the son of a friend.

They say that you have a better chance of being struck by lightning twice than winning the lottery so I guess you should wait until you are struck once to inprove your chances lol!

We have lotteries here in Ontario where the tickets are anywhere from $30 to $100 for charities like the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Sick Children's Hospital. Back when I had money I used to buy them all the time and had great luck. I won cash prizes of $100-$250, some portable stereos, a Roots Olympic jacket, snowshoes, a telescope and lots of other stuff I can't think of right now. I don't think I got my money back by any means but the prizes and the odds were more realistic and I knew the money was going to a good cause rather than the government. There were usually cars, vacations, electronics, appliances and cash spread out more evenly then the big government lotteries. I haven't bought those tickets in quite a while now but I would again in the future if I could.

For your Texas Lotto (Mega Millions), you pick 5 numbers 1-75 and a 6th 1-15. This results in 75C5 ways for the first 5 numbers times 15 for the 6th, where

75C5 = (75x74x73x72x71) / (5x4x3x2x1) = 17259390 combinations
17259390 x 15 = 258,890,850 different picks, one of which is the jackpot.
You have a 1 out of 258,890,850 chance of winning the jackpot.

This is just a little better probability than finding an egg under your rooster one morning.
