Took the solenoid apart. It seemed alright.
Looking at a solenoid will not tell you if it's good or bad.
If you hop on the machine, and turn the key you should at least hear a click as the solenoid moves forward to close the circuit and send voltage to the starter motor.
Some solenoids will also move the starter drive gear into position.
If you do not hear the click then you can have a few things to look at. The solenoid coil could be bad, of one of your safety switches could be open and not allowing voltage to get to the solenoid, or you might have a wiring problem, like broken or shorted wires.
Jumping between the large stud on the solenoid that is hooked to the battery with the heavy wire and the smaller screw that should be energized when you turn the key should activate the solenoid and spin the starter. If you do the jump and nothing happens your solenoid coil is bad, if the solenoid clicks but nothing happens the contacts inside the solenoid may be bad.

................Does the bendix extend out to engage the flywheel when you turn the key on ? You may need a bendix ! , fordy

You do a search and both tractors show up, so I guess DB stands for both. LOL

I had tried to start it on both the new batt in the tractor, AND the batt in my pk, SO, IF the neg cable wasn't clean, on the tractor, it wouldn't matter.

Farmboy Bill, Sorry the e-mail couldn;t go thru. Not sure what went wrong, but dh said sure you can make bales with the NH and the DB. We do it all time with a big round baler, a Vermeer 605C. Have not had any problems. We have found that the DB's are quite different from the others as they take different sizes of things and it seems the hyd's are different and hard to work on. Good luck getting yours to start and do your hay. MoTightwad
