Grey market tractors are those not built to US standards, and not sold in the US originally by their manufacturers. There are lots of Yanmar and Kubota grey market tractors out there. Neighbor of mine bought a grey Kubota shipped to him out of Japan. Thing looked GREAT above the rice paddy water line....ahahahaa....and below that, it was rusted all to pieces. Looked like it spent it's whole life in the water.

The thing that really got him was when he went to buy a set of tires for it. No tire in the US would fit the rims...they were some kind of odd, metric size that NOBODY had a tire for ! The cost of new wheels was out of sight. Then ended up scrapping the tractor.

So buy grey market stuff with your eyes WIDE open. You may get a good deal ( I brought a nearly new.....>200hrs.... Mitsubishi bulldozer over from Japan in 1998, and had no problem with getting parts. Great little machine), or not.

Ask if you can come see it.

"No, shipping is included and it is already at the shipper"

Buddy of mine was right at sending 5 grand for a JD Gator that was located only 1hr away from here. I asked him WHY not go look at it....and he repeated the above.

My next question was "Did you send the money yet ?"

He had not, and I saved him 5 grand he would never have seen again.

Yup, I saw lots of those scams when shopping for a tractor on CL. You want to go down and see the tractor. AND, you want to make the swap in person. You hand him the money, and you take the tractor with bill of sale and paperwork.

And some CL stuff is legit.

This is an ad for a small tractor for about $10K (too small for most tasks), but the same guy has a list of tractors for sale in the ad. Most are low hour, used stuff with FEL's.

But they ain't $7800...

Yeah I came across several scams when looking at used on Craigs List. If the seller wont allow you to look at it, and they want to ship it, and except wire (pay pal) type transfers.....Steer clear or lose your money.

For a new tractor with what you are looking for, you are gonna get pretty close to the
$15-$20K price range. You can find some good deals on used tractors but a lot of the dealers are offering 0% for 60-72 months financing on new models.

4x4 Tractor is going to be hard to find at that price and horse power.

Is 4x4 necessary? If not, you will open up a lot more options.

I just recently bought a John Deere 2032r and I am concerned about whether or not it is gonna be able to handle round bales. If I were you, I wouldn't buy anything less than 35-38HP.

JD 2032r is rather small for most round bales with the loader, I'd think. You'd need ballast and go real slow... maybe the 4x4 bales would be ok? Probably ok to move them around with the 3pt hitch with the loader on or front weights...

I think you are probably right PAHillbilly...4x4 bales are probably as big as I can go. When I bought the tractor, I really had no plans of running cattle on our farm. Wish I would have bought at least the 3 series, but I will have to make it work.

You can move round bales with an ATV if you have leverage:

I'm sure they make something similar to haul round bales behind a small tractor.
