Wow, that looks like a terrific innovation! But looking at the specs makes me feel like they fall short of being very serious machines. Neither one goes more than 6.5 inches deep, which means if you're into non-forked carrots or parsnips, you'll for sure have to double dig. Also, both till a measly 16" path! For those with large gardens, it seems like you'll be out there making passes for a very long time.

I really like this idea. But I'd need to see something that goes a bit deeper and wider. Does anyone know of such a machine? Price matters, but not nearly as much as performance.

I'd been considering a BCS to replace my trusty 35 year old Troy Bilt Horse. But I might wait another year to see if something worthwhile comes out.

FYI

Troy Built bought out Bolens bacK in the late 90's I believe. MTD bought out Cub Cadet in the '80's

Then MTD bought Troy Built after Troy Built bought out Bolens.

So if you look at the Cub Cadet and Troy Built vertical tine tillers the control handles are different and the color is different ... otherwise both machines are the same.

It looks a lot like the vertical tine power harrow that attaches to the expensive BCS walking tractors. Any thoughts? http://store.farmstart.ca/blogs/farm...martin-fortier

The one that Jean Martin Fortier uses tills just the surface. He uses it to work in soil amendments to the surface and make a smooth perfect seed bed.

More similar to the one that the OP is talking about is this one for the BCS:

Unfortunatley, the Berta rotary plow is vary narrow, but it sure seems to do the job.

Do you think the Troy Bilt Axis (vertical tine tiller) will work the same as the rotary harrow for shallow tillage?
