BlueGrass Bound

We finally got a buyer for our home in Tucson. We will be heading to Kentucky at the end of March. Happy and sad all at once. We will be sad to leave, 17 years here. We will be leaving three kids here, two of them are married and the third is close. But it will put us much closer to our only grandchild and her Mommy that is in WV so that will be good. Also makes the wife happy to be closer to her family. Makes me happy that we will still be 6 hours away from her family and that's as close to them as I want to be. LOL The Twins are very excited. They are already picking out colors for their new rooms and deciding what flowers to plant and things for the garden. They are also excited about getting some animals and such. Hope that excitement continues when the weather is lousy and animals need fed. I'm excited because I will be semi-retired and will enjoy doing things I've waited years to do. Can't wait to say "Hi. I'm from Kentucky." I've wanted to live in Kentucky from the first time I saw Fess Parker as Daniel Boone on an old black and white TV in the early 70's. We are BlueGrass Bound!

Kentucky is beautiful, we lived there for awhile due to a job transfer, and we loved it.
Where are you going to be? It seems the state is very rich in different kinds of scenery, we were awed to wake up every morning and see "mountains" out our front porch (which the natives called hills, LOL). Enjoy your new life!

Rosepath,
We haven't purchased anything yet. The real estate agent is frantically looking. I told her we would be there by the end of March and if she hadn't found anything we would be moving in with her. haha We want to center around the Danville area. We like that area, Boyle, Casey, Lincoln, Mercer counties and such. We will miss our Tucson mountains but we are excited. I grew up in the Appalachian foothills so this will be a little like closer to home.

That's pretty close to where we lived, it's beautiful there. Don't overlook Garrard County, or up near Berea, I am excited for you all! We miss it a lot.

We're smack dab in the center of the state. Good luck with your search!

We shop in Danville on occasion, nice town. We live in northern Pulaski County, about 30 miles south of Danville.

I almost moved to Kentucky, then moved 300 miles north to the shores of lake superior. Kinda wish i would have thought that one through... haha

greenhart 02/18/15 01:14 PM

An early welcome to Kentucky. Please check out Green County.

nosedirt 02/19/15 12:13 AM

Philm,
That was quite a wrong turn. I would imagine it to be cold and wet around Lake Superior. haha
The entire state of Kentucky looks wonderful. The Realtor just sent me some info on a couple places around Waynesburg. Also just above Harrodsburg.
Green hart, enjoyed the video about Greensburg in Green County. Looks like green living for sure.

We were interested in a small spread just outside Stanford but we were too slow, already under contract. I'm sure the right place will show up. If not, we will buy something in Danville to stay in until we find what we want. I'll just be glad once we get there and get the garden planted.

Rosepath 02/19/15 02:32 PM

Harrodsburg, grab it! I love it there, the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is wonderful, just east of town. And do they ever have a great garden, so inspiring.

I'm always on my way somewere else when I drive through Kentucky. Seems like a nice state, I'll have to spend some more time there someday. I did manage to stop at the Buffalo Trace Distillery once, though!

Maybe I should rethink the Kentucky idea. I heard it was below 0 in places. It was 81 here in Tucson today.

-15 this morning with more snow/ice on the way tonight into tomorrow.

This is pretty extreme though and our only decent snow of the year. I am hoping that old man winter gets it all out of his system this week.

missymomof3 02/20/15 12:55 PM

Welcome!

nosedirt 02/20/15 02:08 PM

Wow. I think -15 is cold no matter where you are. Hurts my bones to think about it. We've lived in some cold places but after 17 years in AZ, we are so spoiled. But it will be nice to have actual seasons. Here in the desert we have 2 seasons, hot and hotter. We are excited to get there and start growing things.

KYPROUD 02/20/15 02:35 PM

You will definitely experience all 4 seasons in KY...best of luck to you!

I have a piece not too far from Danville. You can details at:

You take the 13 exit to get there. Not far from the University.
