I've seen blue berries that tolerate a good bit of shade, but they will probably do better in full sun. In addition to your blue berries, I would try to load the windbreak with other edible species as well, both for people and wildlife, as long as you are at it. Your windbreak does not have to be a solid evergreen mass. Even diciduous trees will make a difference. A ramp with pecans/walnuts, then mid size chestnuts, then hazelnuts, then chicasaw plum or similar, then blueberries would be impressive and effective.

I have the same problem "wind". I'm planting leland cypress they grow 3-5 ft a year and stay green. In fact I'm picking them up next week.
