I went with PRK over LASIK(et al) because the PRK doesn't leave you with a flap that never fully heals (it adheres. Good, but can in theory be knocked/torn loose).
In PRK they scrape off the top layer of the lens, reshape it, and then the surface of the lens grows back.
Oh, the PRK is quite a bit cheaper than LASIK as well.
Best money I'd spent in a long, long, time and I wish I'd done it sooner.

Actually, it's your cornea they abrade leaving a huge corneal abrasion behind to heal. That is why it is so painful afterwards. It's like having multitudes of foreign bodies in your eye. The lens is internal and not affected. It's the cornea, the clear structure that covers the front of your iris and pupil that is affected and is a very sensitive part of your eye. That's why you can feel if a piece of dust gets in your eye. Now imagine a larger area being affected. VERY unpleasant.

Personally, I wear glasses. I've seen what misuse of contact lenses can do to the human eye way too many times to feel comfortable wearing them for any length of time.
