Neither.
PRK corrective surgery.
Had both my eyes done, the first 3 days afterwards were...unpleasant. After that my vision was good enough for driving, and after 6 months I had 20/15 in my left eye and 20/20 in my right eye.

I went with PRK over LASIK(et al) because the PRK doesn't leave you with a flap that never fully heals (it adheres. Good, but can in theory be knocked/torn loose).
In PRK they scrape off the top layer of the lens, reshape it, and then the surface of the lens grows back.

Oh, the PRK is quite a bit cheaper than LASIK as well.
Best money I'd spent in a long, long, time and I wish I'd done it sooner.

Actually, it's your cornea they abrade leaving a huge corneal abrasion behind to heal. That is why it is so painful afterwards. It's like having multitudes of foreign bodies in your eye. The lens is internal and not affected. It's the cornea, the clear structure that covers the front of your iris and pupil that is affected and is a very sensitive part of your eye. That's why you can feel if a piece of dust gets in your eye. Now imagine a larger area being affected. VERY unpleasant.

Personally, I wear glasses. I've seen what misuse of contact lenses can do to the human eye way too many times to feel comfortable wearing them for any length of time.

Yes, you're correct. It's the cornea that gets scraped off.

As far as imagining it goes, I don't need to. I felt it firsthand.
Right after the surgery, nothing.
Next day, pain.
Day 2, more.
Day 3, Holy Mother of Pearl.
Day 4, unpleasant but getting better.
Day 5, negligible discomfort.

Would I do it again? Yes, without a doubt.

I would have said contacts a few years ago simply so I wouldn't have to fumble with sunglasses...either switching glasses or clip-ons.

However.....

I love my Transitionals!!!

So, now my answer is glasses. I haven't worn my contacts since and don't miss them.

I wore contacts for about 20 years but when my kids were babies, it was easier to wear glasses. Quicker to put on and get going in the morning and quicker to take off at night. Every spare minute of sleep was precious at that time. Now I have been wearing glasses for about 18 years and would like to go back to contacts, but it is so expensive and now that I wear trifocals not sure if they could cover my prescription. I refuse to put contacts in and have to use reading glasses!

When I was wearing contacts, Drs. told me I would have problems with dirt and hair in my eyes because I worked with horses, but I never had a problem with them.
