Yes I have gotten them also not a big deal. Kind of nice when you stop and think about it.

We just got rid of DISH.
Though we never had any problems with them at all.

But I just could not justify paying as much as we were paying for hundreds of channels that we never, ever watched..
shopping by the thousands, reality tv junk, sports and more shopping channels.
Did I mention shopping channels?

And I was paying for them.
So now we go with HULU and Netflix and our old Wii.
We pay less than $20 a month and have more of what we want..
British crime shows, all of the series that we watch anyway and original shows like House of Cards and Hemlock Grove.

We are very pleased.
Plus, we only really had time to watch one show or so a night during the week.
Maybe a little more time on the weekends.
All that money for just a couple of hours and a couple of shows.
Why, oh why did we wait so long?

Direct TV is really blanketing this area of MO. We get 2-3 cards a week with deals. Dont have a TV (wish I did some times) try to watch shows on the net.

When I moved out to my current house, we just never got around to picking a satellite company, so now 4 years later we still only have the internet and an in-house antenna. Its enough to get all local channels. The only reason I would get them is to watch sports, but they have yet to come out with a package that is only all the sports channels without paying for hundreds of other channels I won't watch and don't want to pay for.

But back when I did have satellite, we had dish. That was 2005-2009 timeframe. During that time, we had little to no issues with them. But I was always just on the lowest cost tier of programming, which at the time was ~ $30/month. I have no clue what the equivalent would be now.

Google Fiber is being installed in a few places and as Google takes over fiber optic delivered entertainment the satellite TV providers are running scared. TV as we now know it will change. That is the reason for the lowering of costs for subscription service. Many people are also finding that the old free-to-air service, now with digital transmission, is IMO also not too different from what they are paying high monthly fees, particularly with the amount of advertising present. I refuse to pay to watch a commercial!

Just as a side note, I noticed a lot of disagreement between folks with the same services. I just tore down 3 dish receivers that were installed on the same day (years ago) and found that they were not even close on the inside. I'm thinking the difference in these receivers could be a difference in the satisfaction people experience with their service.

Just a thought.

I killed the $120 cable, signed up for NetFlix, and set up the kids' old Wii for the WiFi... And within 36 hours, DH had signed up with the other provider. SIGH...
He watches 5-6 hours of TV every night. It just kills me to see it happening.

That is what I did a year ago and got that full year of savings NOW it is back to its Normal pricing. Which is High but that is live I guess if you want to watch TV and I do and use for entertainment.
I was paying 58 and some change for year now that Normal price kicked in and it is 92 bucks. But I have a HD TV so that adds some more to the package.
And I REALLY use the DVR that is built in to the Directv receiver. I use it a lot~!
And I bought a Add On Box and Installed that myself and now I can watch Youtubes on my TV as my HDTV is not new enough to be a 'smart one' LOL

I got up this morning to find Dish had dropped Fox news. Wife called Dish, they said they were still negoiating, and it may be a week or so, but they felt something will happen, and they will get Fox back.

I find the Fox News vs. Dish spat entertaining, because it is representative of the type of hardball that both play, leaving viewers out in the wind. Dish just went through the same routine with CNN. These are dinosaurs fighting. The writing is on the wall and I fully expect to see television content via cable and satellite diminish rapidly as people switch to getting content over the net. Google is in a great spot to become your next Comcast or TWC.

Consider that Dish and others send out massive amounts of info over a number of channels, yet the average viewer might only spend a very few hours a week watching any of it, and doesn't even want 90% of it.

You can watch CBS etc.. online.
Right at CBS.com.

When DISH dropped CBS last year, that is what I had to do to stay up on Criminal Minds etc..

And HULU has the DIY network and all of the other home and garden shows too.

All the rest of the news channels do not give any of the political news and even fox does not give it all. I have to search for it on the net.

Dish Forgery

In July I ordered Dish. They came out and installed and never had me sign the contract. No one could work there remote control and we didn't like the programing. I called them and told them I never signed the contract and we didn't like the programing after 2 weeks. They said I would have a $420 early termination fee. I said I never signed the contract and did not agree to their terms. They emailed me the contract that was a forged signature. I contacted the Calif Attorney Generals office and filed a complaint. Within 1 week Dish contacted me and let me out of the contract. I then installed Direct without any problems.

Dish is dishonest.

You just did by posting what you did, Fox just gives the viewer the other side of things not just one slanted sided..

Been with DISH for years, out of contract, two 722 DVR receivers. Suspended service in Nov when we moved to our new house since we knew we'd be too busy to enjoy it for at least a few months. Start getting offers for "new" customers up to $200 which really ticked me off. I called and politely asked for a retention specialist, explained the situation, and she immediately offered me $25 off our bill for the next 10 months ($250 vs the $200 mailed offer). I was pleased (as I've always been with their customer service), and we'll be getting it re-installed right after the holidays.

My other alternative would have been very expensive satellite internet service to run our Amazon Fire stick through which we watch Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu Plus. No service could guarantee me enough bandwidth for the amount of streaming we do for less than a hundred bucks a month.

I want to throw out there that DISH and Direct TV have local people who sell and install for them if you can find them. We deal with a nice couple who live a few towns over. We had to look hard to find them as big companies buy all the online ads, but they are all independent contractors. The contracts are still a scam, but our guy explains the whole scam and how to get the best out of it, he totally agrees it's a scam. Anything happens (our modem for satellite internet just fried) and they are here in a flash. No talking to idiots in another part of the country who just want to upgrade your package when you call with a technical problem.

I would love to just stream and do hulu again, but can't do it out here in the sticks! Satellite internet with GB allowances here.
