I prefer the cozy heat of DW. Outside of that option, I would seek out the cheapest kilowatt of heat sold into the market with the slimmest profit margins.

Eg. A heated wrap for equine==thick margins. Bad idea.

A heated wrap for a single-wide trailer water line==thin margins. Good idea.

The next challenge is a warm night's sleep that doesn't make lumps in the mattress.

My pad has dual controls, heats the whole bed, in zones (warmer at the feet), is washable and I can't feel the wires. Plus it shuts off after about 8 hours if I forget about it.
After reading the above descriptions---No wonder some of you prefer the blanket!

Have never had a heated mattress pad but do have an electric blanket.

Like said above, some would tell you it's not a good idea to sleep under an electric blanket that's turned on. I don't know about one of the heated mattress pads.

We don't leave ours on after we go to be. But, we turn it on way before it's time to crawl in. There is plenty of time for it to warm up the bed, all the way from the quilted mattress pad to the flannel sheets to another more typical blanket to the electric blanket to the heavy quilt that lives on top. It all gets warm over the course of a few hours.

Once it's all warmed up and we crawl in, the blanket gets turned off but the bed stays warm with our body heat keeping it nice an toasty.

Works for us.

I much prefer a pad but with dh weight it was hard on the "fabric" the wires where attached to so it shredded.

We now have a blanket as I think it will have a longer life span in my household.

I miss the heat rising.

I have both. This is my first heated mattress pad. It was actually less expensive than the blanket that I have not had to use yet this winter. Love the pad , don't feel any of the wires , and I stay plenty warm. Getting what you pay for, the better blankets and pads do cost more but perform better and are longer lasting.
