What makes a person a Homesteader?

Some years ago, I remember seeing this signature line that belonged to one of our members, right here at HomesteadingToday:

Of course I'm a homesteader. I've got a flock of bees and a herd of goldfish to prove it.

Ha ha! I love it! (Does anyone remember who that was?)

I do not consider myself one. I work off 45+ hour/week. My kids are not homeschooled.

I grew up on a dairy farm in northern Michigan.

We raise much of our own food (meat, fruit and veggies) on our 3 acres in the middle of the mitten.

If you don't like it, tough poop!

I like the term Modern Homesteader that was used earlier.

I also think it could be a state of mind.

Then again, it could be the amount of mud you have caked on your boots after working outside all day.

City folks just don't seem to have that to deal with as much as 'homesteaders' do.
