We do not stack hay against the walls for another reason...over time, the weight of the bales compress, they become flatter, and wider. If you stack against the walls, as the bales widen they will push outward on the walls.
Granted, our hay barns here are either post and board or "pole" building, but even one season's worth can start damage. And those bales have to be picked up, as well. Will the tractor operator be careful not to push the bales into the walls as he spears them?
