i don't want to bum you out or anything, and there is probably no problem down there where you live, but i watched a special on public tv,and have discussed this with my dad, and if there are any predators there, like we have cougars and bears here, you don't want to encourage deer into the yard. the more they are around and out near you, the closer the predators come.

we don't encourage, but still get deer through the yard, in the road, all over the place....and yeah, we got the cougar right here too. the bear's home is about 5 miles away. i actually think i saw it crossing the road just after dusk the other night, my proof being the odd behavior my dog was displaying just after i saw it with her running in circles by me barking (if it was a deer she would have taken off after it, but she and my other dog were attacked by a cougar last winter, and he ended up having to be put down from it, so she is a little sensitive and rightly so, i believe). then a few minutes later my friend and i heard it just in the woods across the road. well, i've heard it numerous times.

point being it doesn't bother us but it is here. and according to the specialists, or whatever, encouraging wildlife like deer in your yard encourages the predators to move closer to you as well. again, there may be none near you yet.

i, on the other hand, would have fun with the deer and encourage it. we've already got that cougar hanging out here anyway, so what is the difference in our case?
