Yesterday was a tough day.

Received 40 metric tons of gravel for the driveway, broke down a boulder with gas powered rockdrill and wedges. And finished pulling up a big spruce stump which i started earlier.

Accompanied with the usual quart of coffee..

Also visited dad's place for some delicious chocolate pie and chatting for an hour in the evening.

Over the weekend I rented a forestry cutter and cleaned out hedgerows and the edges of the hayfields. Fun, fun, FUN! I had to do it for a DEC program I am in, and did hate to damage the hedgerows, but it was necessary. And ever since the ice storm in 1998 a lot of ash trees have been overhanging the edges of a lot of the fields, and I wasn't getting as close to the edge as I should have been when I was cutting. Over time you start losing hay from that kind of thing. One place was grown out nearly 20'! Had no idea it was that bad there. It's going to take some time to get hay from that spot again.

Found an old spring tooth harrow that I had NO IDEA was there in the middle of a hedgerow. I thought I knew where everything was on this place, too. My Dad or uncle probably left it there before I was born by the way it's grown into everything.

Yesterday was mostly recovery day for my knee. Didn't think I bothered it with the rented Bobcat and forestry cutter, but Sunday night it was really on fire. I hope it gets back to normal (normal hurting, at least) soon.

I woke up this morning. Actually did some work today, paperwork anyway!!! That counts right?? Read a book last night until pretty late "Born Again Dirt". Anybody who thinks the bible really does not provide any guidance for how we as Christians should farm should read this one, some very insightful perspectives on farming.

Works almost over now, going home soon, can't wait!!

I've thought for a long time that it would be pretty funny if you could choose what people would here as a ringtone when you called them.

my husband has a ringtone that cracks up my kids. it says "warning to owner of this phone has just farted"....of course he just downloaded it as a joke and wouldn't use it. how funny would it be if you could do that to someone by setting it from your own phone though?

Wait. You mean all I need for ebola is pepto bismal?!?!?! Crap, I've been on the wrong thread here for days to get my info and preps straight for this.

Holy cow. I'm plumb tuckered. Did laundry, dishes, baked cookies, had a 504 meeting, withdrew 2 kids from school (that was emotionally draining), made grilled steak and mashed potatoes for dinner. Good night!

Went to the firehouse.. then took a ride up to see where they're thinking about putting a new antenna tower..

Then found out some new stuff about the well that provides my gas. Eventually I should be in good hands with it being taken care of after a couple sales of it, but until then, I've decided I gotta do what I gotta do to keep the heat running. Crash course in pump jacks coming up..

Put dinner in the oven... Roast beef in the iron dutch oven with tomatoes, onions, garlic, whskey, hotsauce salt and pepper.. Man was that a tasty dinner..

While it cooked I winterized the log splilter (you have to remember this thing literally weighs a ton with a 30hp engine on it). Used the tractor to get it in the machine shed..

Cleaned up all the wood mess, moved my trailer with materials to get the mud room and bathroom remodled in place by the house so I can use it as storage while I do the job.. Will be starting on that in a couple weeks. .

Mowed the new grass where I had regraded the yard..

Dug a bunch of trash outta the creek that was blocking my cullverts after last nights downpour..

Took about a half hour to go look for a squirrel or two for tomorrows dinner... didn't see any, so I'll probably have left over roast...

Now I'm here.... At least I had less to get done today than I got done yesterday

Loaded up my 1950 Cub Demonstrator, and my 1935 Standard Twin tractors to take to a antique tractor show tomorrow. I started at 9 30, and finished at 2 30. I wanted to take my Panzer, but the tilt on the ramps was too much for the rear tires to get a bite. Ill camp out Fri nite, hope to sell both and come home Sat.

When I told my nephew I was camping out, he asked if I had a tent. I said no, that it wouldn't get much use if I had one. Said I had bought a 8 X 10 canvas tarp, and 2 2X8 sheets of particle board. Said I had loader eyes in the pockets of my pk bed, and I would tie one end of the canvas to them, stretch it out as far as it will go, then drivwe 3 rebar that is 5ft long down to where the rebar sticks up 3in above the particle board. Stand it up against the rebar, and anchor the top of the reb ar ro another short set of rebar placed at an angle for anchors.

He laughed, and said I sounded like I would make a good homeless person. I said I had a more permanent use for both the canvas and the particle board when I got back home with them.

I had the day off from watching DGS. I had a bushel of red peppers to prepare and got them all done. Went with DH to Lowe's to get nails so he can put siding on his pole barn, and then went to our property where he is building the pole barn and checked things out. Came home and made stuffed red peppers for dinner and froze a batch for another day. I also prepared five bags of cut up red peppers for freezing. It was a good productive day.

Last night we went to an adult toy store downtown. I was there to pick up supplies (no, not what you may be thinking!) We walked in to a huge group of people sitting on folding chairs and heads turned as we walked in on a "Sex after 55" class.

Then we went to a restaurant down the street and stuck out like hicks among the hipsters and listened to a mini-hipster screaming baby and watch the guy next to us eating mussels like there was no tomorrow. Later on we walked to a coffeeshop and people-watched for a while.

Oh, it was an interesting night and nice to get back to our boring, quiet little home. Bonus points for me managing to parallel park without hitting anything even though there was a metrobus behind me and tons of traffic. Score!

I hooked up to the manure spreader last week, parked in a burdock patch, and was very carefully avoiding the ripe burrs. Spent so much time doing that I didn't remember to put the jack up . . . Anyway, today I welded on a new mount for the pipe jack. At least the jack itself wasn't damaged, so it was only a $10 repair. So I was able to park the spreader again and got the tractor freed up to feed the cows. They've been on hay for most of the summer since their pasture wasn't good and I have a lot of extra round bales from last year. Finished out the day by taking them their dinner for the next three days.

Ran a few errands in the hills. I was able to avoid going down the mountain and into the city. Tidied up for a bit. Dd and I peeled and cored apples for drying and sorted sunflower seeds. We began planning/brainstorming a magical Christmas project. Made quiche for dinner.

Dismantled a quickly-erected turkey pen so we can build it back "properly", but for ducks this time.

Dropped a huge oak on the corner of my garden (was inside the turkey pen...like I said, we threw it up quick!). Fortunately, it only took out about 30' of fence and one corner post, so no big deal there, but I almost FAINTED when I saw it going down in the wrong direction!

Hung up more clothing, put away more items from our motorhome, and went on quite a 7 mile hike. Then, my hiking buddy and I missed a turn on the way back and had to drive an extra 30 minutes to get home. So, I prepared a late dinner for my husband, and soon to turn in. I'll sleep well tonight!
