Yes that is true. And this is just happening now. The PA is how many years old now? 10 12 years old. But this here Dodd-Frank is only a few years old with 2,500 pages of law, some went into effect back when it was signed but as in many laws it takes a few years for everything written inside to take effect. a few years now 12, although the president we have today did Expand the PA more than it was intended for. So some of what is going on is because of the PA, but surely not all of it.

Don't get me started on this this is probably referring to the regulations for funds availability. When you deposit a check, the bank is required to make a small amount available the next day if they don't make the whole deposit available. Used to be $100, now it is $200. My bank likes to pretend like this regulation doesn't exist. One day it's going to cause me to file a complaint with FDIC. But they are the closest bank to me, so...

No that's not why tellers are rude. Tellers are rude because their boss allows them to be.
Customers can still vote with their feet - ie go to a different bank.
Any customer service type people are only rude to me once, then their company loses my business.

I still say its just a way for the government to do nothing but monitor someones else's money, ours. Again what could go wrong? I don't know. Information is power. But in the original post I thought it was about banking intrusion not banking rudeness.

After credit checks and so on. I think its just as well I will put the money in a saving account in one of the kids names and if its enough to dig a hole when Im dead good if not oh well.

I have a friend that is a CFO at one of the largest bank's you've heard of.. He said that banks spend a lot of time figuring out the best ways to screw their customers and their employees... and he was dead serious... He said the Feds are so nice to help too..

After we moved here, went to one bank 4 times trying to open an account. Problem was, we couldn't prove residency, because all our bills had a PO box on them and not a physical address... Went to the bank across the street and they opened one.. with crazy stupid fees attached to even their best accounts..

Yeesh. I guess we are lucky. We use a local bank - "Bank Independent" and have been treated with courtesy from day one by every single person in the bank. I have a no fee business checking and we have a couple of other checking accounts. I think the only fee we've had for over seven years were a couple of wire transfer fees. I bailed on BB&T when it wanted a minimum monthly fee of $10 on business checking.

Smaller banks and credit unions are the way out of a lot of the mess. Even setting up the business account was relatively painless.

I used to keep a little cash under my bed until I found one of the dust bunnies running a computer.

We have money on the farm. But there are times when I need to cash a ck. dh said the same thing about more money and they would have been nicer.. I deposited a ck today that will keep any fees off the account. I am sure I will gradually move things here but I may try another bank..

As a consumer, customer, patient etc we get to choose where we spend our money and who we deal with. Businesses do as well. You did not do anything wrong and the bank did nothing wrong. They just protect themselves (and also their customers) by being selective and thorough and following any information laws. Once when I worked in customer service I had a very, very angry customer who demanded we give him a bank account and credit card "as his right" although he had been turned down. The reality was he had no "right" to a bank account or credit card . Getting one is a privilege and of course any business wants customers so they try to be friendly and co-operative but not everyone is worth the risk.
