His name was David when he called me. I told him there was nothing wrong with my computer and he could take his scam elsewhere. He hung up on me.

We've had that one too!
And the Prince from Bwhatisname, and the girl calling: "G'pa? It's Me! I'm in trouble, don't tell dad, send $$!"
Yesterday got email from DDIL, "I didn't have time to tell you about my trip to TURKEY!!! And I lost my wallet, need 1200 euros..."
They are getting sooo creative! Must be somewhat successful or they wouldn't keep it up.
Funny thing, DH got that email 1st, started reading it to me & said, "we can't help her, we're up here in ME..." I said, stop & think...
Told DDIL she should feel good that he immediately thought how to help her...

First time they called, about a year ago, I figured it was a scam pretty quick, and just hung up. Thought about it, and was prepared for the next call, which came a few months later.

Ring, Ring:

"This is Bob, I am a Microsoft computer technician, calling about some problems with your computer. Are you sitting at your computer now ? "

(In my best ole time preacher voice):

COMPUTER ? WHAT COMPUTER ? TOOLS OF THE DEVIL, I TELL YOU !! I WON'T HAVE ONE OF THEM IN MY HOUSE ! PURE EVIL WASTERS OF TIME IS WHAT THEY ARE.....

(then, even louder...)

TELEPHONES...ANOTHER TOOL OF THE DEVIL ! NOTHING BUT ELECTRIC LINES FOR GOSSIP, BILL COLLECTORS AND OTHER TROUBLE. I'M HAVING THIS ONE TAKEN OUT TOMORROW ! DON'T EVEN TRY TO CALL HERE AGAIN

(louder still....)

INDOOR PLUMBING ! HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT THE EVILS OF IT ?? ALL THAT FILTH AND NASTY KEPT INSIDE THE HOUSE ? NOPE, NONE OF THAT HERE EITHER !!

(and as I pause a second, the guy meekly replies: "Sorry to have bothered you sir")

ahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa

Becka03, my sister got a call from a guy in Jamaica (he said). When she wouldn't tell him what he wanted to know he asked her where she lived and told her he'd come kill her. She told him to come on but she would promise him he wouldn't leave the way he came.

I was at my moms and some dude called, asked for her I asked the purpose , he refused to talk to me but tried to force me to give her the call.

Ummm ya and NO, then he started with foul language and other verbal extortion's...

Yup you sure don't get to talk with her now but I was having some fun so I let him see what I keep in the suit case... I can make a sinner blush with shame if pressed...

I fear I may of actually given him a education on verbal intimidation...

Although I think when he looks at certain family members, well he will just have to bear that picture in his mind.

My question is "are these phone calls originating from a foreign country or are these low lifes here in the states? If they are here, what is our govt. doing to eradicate them?

I was wondering that myself I even though about calling the local PD but in order to really have any evidence you would have to let them in , and record the hole thing , then be able to track back the telephone and work with the credit card company

maybe I will ask next time I see on of the cops how they would like to handle it.

You can write down the phone number, but don't be surprised if they are "spoofing", calling from a different number and disguising it for the caller ID.
Already tried tracking and reporting a few myself. When I got ahold of the business whose phone number they were using as a decoy, they were aware of the complaints and told me it was hurting their business and reputation too.
Too bad the attorney generals and so forth, can't seem to find the time to prosecute these kinds of criminals, but look at decent taxpayers as ready targets.

Our community is small - when it happened here it was reported to the PD and they sent out a warning to people in our listening area through our local radio station. I know there is an Internet Crime Complaint Center (http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx) but I would think you need to actually be defrauded before they get involved?

We used to get those calls here too.
We always look at the caller ID before answering.
One time when I picked it up I saw the caller ID was our own phone number.
Neat trick I told him and a sure fire way to let us know before picking up the phone that you are a scammer.

I keep a whistle next to the phone for these guys.
My sweet wife got one and looked at me for help so I took the phone and told the guy he had upset my sweet wife and if he EVER called this number again I will come there and kill you.
Nobody gets away with speaking to her like that.
