In that case we are all set.... last winter didnt amount to much... we had fall, and went straight on into spring, which has pretty much lasted up until last part of last week. finally getting a little bit of summer here in south central Ky.

Well we are getting there, rabbits getting ready to butcher , a few muscovy's as well for fall , and a goat as well, i want to put plastic on the window's in the back room and i want to put straw bales around the deck to help with draft's, firewood almost all cut, we went though alot last year first time we had to buy any in years. I noticed the horses and goats are starting to grow there winter woolies, that is a good sign you can count on it was 43 when i woke up this morning garden doing very well however i am worried about a early frost as it has been a cool summer around here, but looks like if the weather holds we will have agreat winter sqaush pumpkin year,, I am not ready for a winter like last year that is for sure however ,that being said when you live in northern lower Mi you take what comes!!

Winter? Last year was by far the coldest one that we had experienced in many years....but by most people standards it would had been very tame. We probably had at least a dozen days with lows in the high 20's when we normally only have 3 or 4 all year that cold. I hope to still be harvesting tomatoes from the garden into November.

Wish I knew what the winter is going to bring! Some say mild, some say lots of snow ugh!
Hate to get ready for 4 foot drifts by the barn and then have 50 degree temps.....

Hay is stacked and the wood pile is growing daily. Freezers and canned goods are full. So bring it on. I love winter.

I don't know what is predicted for winter in southern Nova Scotia this year but no two years are alike. last winter was bad with high winds, lots of snow and bitter cold. Two seasons ago winter was mild with hardly any snow. So we prepare like we will be snowed in for months. Then we are ready for anything. If it doesn't happen we have left over food and wood for another year.

So far the 2nd crop haying is done and there is lots of hay in the barn mow. I have been canning green beans etc and drying herbs, The wood is all cut and stacked drying for winter. The part of the house we heat is as secure as we can make it. There is more garden to get out but it is too early until the end of Sept. and the butchering won't be done until October.

We are trying to sell part of our property but it is starting to look like this won't happen until next year now. So we will settle in and enjoy Fall while we wait for winter. I predict winter will arrive a month early here as it already feels like Fall.

After last year, I can't see it getting worse...my F-150 was buried, and I mean buried for close to a month.
2 cords of wood up, and 2 more slated for delivery.
Shop insulated, propane heat for now as I build an outdoor wood heater, not a boiler.
Both generators prepped, fuel supply needs to get topped off this week.
It's been low to mid 40s in the morning for the past week, then up to mid 80s during the day. Never really got summer here except when we went on vacation.
Chicken coop re enforced after the bear trashed it.
Food...check. Water supply...check. Window film...have and need to install. Chimney sweep coming next Saturday. Oil tank full and automatic delivery.
Prepared? Yes. Wanting to see winter? NO!

Matt

I am happy to know you are ready, at least as ready as you can be. I worry about you out there. Another year on this side. Those of us that have been doing it long enough, know what the bad years bring and do that level of prep to be safe. Keeps the worry down. Good to hear from you, I know you keep busy but you have been quieter than usual. Hope all is well and you have a good winter. Be careful. God Bless you and yours
....James

I have decided that I think I'm ready. I'll never like snow and cold weather and I sure don't look forward to a repeat of last winter, but I'm ready for the seasons to change. Usually I'm hanging on to summer but this spear I feel oddly different. More like I'm prepared at kind of "at peace"'with summer ending. This summer has been the first real summer I've ever worked hard doing what I feel I should be doing; growing lots of vegetables and stocking like a squirrel. Maybe because last winter I was blindsided but this time I'm ready. If possible - much more aware and keen as it seems I can spot one leaf in a tree changing colors or I hone in on three leaves that fall when the winds blows. It's really particular how differently I view the end of summer this year.
