Michigan is certainly a beautiful state with many natural resources. However, regulations are pretty tight if you get closer to the middle of the state. However, up North is less stringent, and the UP is pretty much deviod of regulations. But like others have said the growing season is short and the winters are very harsh. Be ready for lots of snow and ice- and about 6-8 months of winter every season. This is one of the main reasons why I am considering moving a little further south. Oh yeah the summer's are lovely up North and there is some great star gazing to be had.
