Hi BlueRose, we will be off of a gravel, non MoDot maintained road called Medlock Dr. It is 7.8 miles from the property to 'downtown' Raymondville according to my car odometer.
I think it is 11 miles from Licking- 137 then V then the gravel.

Thanks for the tip about the libraries, until we can figure out a good option at home, it will be the library for anything I can't do on my cheap pre-paid Smart phone.

Do you still live in the area? If you do, we'd love to get together once we come down.

Lived on Medlock Drive once upon a time. Be careful which neighbors befriend you. Some are amazing and wonderful folks ... The family living in the barn style house are good people if you get to meet them and the folks on the corner with the animals are also super nice folks and good friends. Good luck and I hope it is what you hope for. Everyone has different ideas and ways of doing things. That is what we liked in our other little cabin in another part of the ozarks and the wonderful friends and church we belonged to. Medlock drive was different for us. Now because of DH job we are further North and love it. We have made tons of great friends. That particular area was just different for us. It could be a perfect fit for you depending on what you want. I think we may have been a bit too country(homesteady). Big houses, fancy stuff, and big talk about what you do and don't have are what we definately didn't want. We liked the gardening, canning, livestock and simple stuff. Done the other before for 25 years and would never go back to it. We moved to Missouri to become part of the lifestyle or we would have stayed where we were. If you like it and after you have been there awhile let me know and I will send you some info on some other locals in the area outside of Medlock Drive. They really appreciate folks that move in especially if they want to learn the cultural differences and beauty of the area and not try to push the newbies lifestyle on them. I belonged to a fun group of Bunco gals and had so much fun once a month with them. I also volunteered for two different services one being the hospital and one being a child advocacy group. If you look, there are things to enjoy very much in that area.

We also used a sawdust toilet in our little cabin and it worked great. We used a close sawmill to the area.

Grandma, that's amazing that in a group as large as HT, you used to live on Medlock too!

I met the neighbors with the critters; they are so nice. They are living in a converted storage shed so they have more of the same mindset as I have. In fact, when the lady & I met, we were both so happy to find that neither of us likes shopping except at the farm supply stores.

I saw the large barn house but haven't had a chance to meet those folks yet. I did meet a couple down the road; they seemed pretty nice but probably are a bit less homesteady than I am.

I wanted to live somewhere were I didn't have to 'keep up' with everyone else; not just on possessions but even on how well manicured my yard is.
I don't like junk piles but I find a lot of weeds quite pretty when they're in bloom-that makes a lot of city folks nervous.

I would love to talk to you more about the area. Maybe once we are down in the area, we could arrange to meet.

My husband is a member of our local American Legion so we thought we would try to get active down there in order to meet local people. I am very outgoing so I have no problem making friends but my husband is a lot quieter so joining community organizations might help him find friends.

Bunco, I haven't heard of anyone who played that for years! When I was younger, my mother taught me how to play bunco.

Thank you for the information; I've been the new kid on the block many times over the years but we haven't made a major life changing move for a number of years.

I can tell with your personality you are going to do great in MO. I still do a lot of work with my child advocacy in Houston and sometimes meet with the lady you met with the critters for lunch. Perhaps when you get settled you can join us sometime.
