Ours survived a house fire too and we put them all in a clean wood fire to burn off any residue and reseasoned them and they are still in every day use. I think the real key is using them frequently and keeping them oiled lightly.
I can understand why a collector or antique seller might want to have some fancy treatment for them but I don't think it is necessary. If they invest a whopping amount of money in a pan it probably makes them feel better to treat it like it is delicate.
