In a heartbeat! That's assuming the other 5000 would also be mainly homesteaders rather than parasites.

Those fed up with the politics/laws/etc of their homeland always left for the new frontier - problem is there are no new frontiers any more.
It really surprises me that more here would not be willing to go.

Since I've never had any problems with homesteading here, no I wouldn't go. Anyway dealing with 5,000 other people it'd end up the same as here. Like the old saying, 'wherever you go there you are'. Change of scenery isn't going to change people.

The new always turns into the old.. You'd just be moving to more of the same eventually... It's a shame people can't really change..

Well like he said there is no infrastructure. Who's going to tell you you can't hunt or fish?

I'm in, but I will make it clear that once there I will recognize no authority and declare myself a free, autonomous, individual. That does not mean I would not voluntarily work with others for our mutual benefit but would recognize no obligation to do so, nor expect others to be obligated to me.

As such I would recognize no 'social contract', and give no consent to be governed in any way. Any and all interactions with myself will be only on a voluntary basis.

Somebody would probably sneak a cat into the new world and ruin it.

As for me... it would really depend on the place you are being sent to, who the other 5000 people are made up of, if it's a complete "one way ticket with zero communication back home" and what kind of "government" set up is going with you.

Who gets to pick the other 4,999 people? Being stuck on a distant planet with 4,999 people who held a value system I couldn't agree with would be just about like being sent to hell.

Also, how much respect are women going to get? Count me out if the women are required to spit out a new colonist every 9 months until they die from exhaustion.
