Yes - I think it is time to go over there with a batch of your best getting-to-know-you cookies. I wouldn't probably mention the windmill for a few weeks or even months. Then I would admire it and ask if it is a working windmill, take an interest in it. You may then well be given an opportunity to help with its maintenance.

On the subject of dogs - my neighbor has a bunch of them. They don't bark all the time but when they do I know that there is something around that they are not friendly with (me, sometimes LOL) I figure they are doing their job. I was glad to hear a rooster crow the other morning - means that they aren't likely to mind when mine gets old enough to doodle-doo. Live and let live.

Bw roosters, guineas, and our dog (golden that rarely barks and sleeps inside at night) our farm won't be silent either. You all drove home the main point well; create a relationship and go from there. In the meantime we will keep our windows shut at night thanks!

RunHarley52: You took the comments very well even when they might not have been what you wanted to hear. We have all seen new people come to the forum, post a question/comment and when everyone didn't agree with them they get mad and storm off. I am glad you didn't do that, welcome to the forum

Edit: I hope yourself and neighbor can work out something with the windmill that you both can be happy with and be friends

Thanks for the welcome. I put the question out there with an open mind and I appreciate the candid feedback; it helps me see what I might be missing. Glad I found this forum! I'll keep folks updated if there is any news
