Ordinary spiders don't bother me, but I am reluctant to tote a single log into the house because I sure don't need to be dripping a trail of Brown Recluses...

Hmmm...lemons to lemonade? Ok then, maybe it's Hugelkultur time!

I think you have a movie script here! Scary x 100. If I had this happen I would spray it with something very deadly and then cover real good with a tarp or plastic - that would fix them.

But, where I live, nothing poisonous lives. Actually hardly anything lives through our winters. No hurricanes, no poison snakes or spiders, no killer bees, just lots of subzero and snow from Nov through mid-April.

I am terrified of brown recluse. So much that DH teases me almost daily or anytime we have to deal with any insect or bite... "Ahhh! It's a Brown Recluse!"

Wouldn't Boric Acid work in dealing with any insect? It might take a little while but my understanding is that it essentially eats through the exoskeleton and kills the insect.

also be safe all im sad to say i nearly lost my son to one.while we cannot verify it the doc was convinced thats what did it.my son has adhd and a defiance disorder.doing alot better now that he lives with me im proud to say.but when he lived with his mom a spider bit him at 6 years old.at the time he couldnt leave a scab or bite alone.he never realized he even does it.so he was squeezing it and it pushed the venum down well spots showed up all over his leg and we found out he had infection in his femur.he ended up in hospital with a pump to pull out infection.a large chunk of bone was removed.the doc wanted to take his leg but they changed there tone quick when 20 large hill people<my family> showed up and told them not gonna happen.he was in hospital a month then at home with a line in leg for 3 more.a year later the infection resurfaced and we went through it all over again.after that they said he would never play contact sports or be able to get very physical.i shook my head at them and now at 13 years old ne plays football weight trains with us and works around farm daily.he has a 15 inch scar that looks awful down his leg that he loves to show off.the point be afraid of those spiders they can and will hurt you.brown recluse is a nasty creature.
