1967 JD 4020 Gas, 4800 hr Runs Great. Dual remotes,3 pt., new intake manifold, battery and battery box. $7150. needs new rear ties and the forwards are 50%.Thank You.

Not bad. Keep in mind you're at $9000ish with new rears but I'd run those ones another season.

Look here on Tractor House
|
Has it had the 12 volt starter conversion or the 24 volt original starter. 24 volt starting systems were not the best. It is a late year of the early style, not the more wanted (liked) side console model.. What will you be using it for? I like the later ones but that looks like a good price....James

Anyone wanting to donate a good pair of 12.4x38 tires? |
If you are using that just for hay crops those tires will last forever, that tractor new was $7500.....I use to own a 4010 which is the older model and it was a 5 plow tractor, did a nice job for me, pulled a 12 ft disc, springtooth and spiketooth harrow..wasn't too bad on fuel.....
|
Mine was diesel....
|
I used to have one of those!!!! Brings a tear to my eye just looking at it. I loved that tractor. I had a big loader on the front and all kinds of goodies to run off the back pto.
Thanks for the smile. That photo just warms my heart. |

If it's just haying you've got a lot of hours left on them anyway

Does it just have 1 12 volt battery? Then it is a 12 volt starter, it would have 2-12 volt batteries if it was 24 volt. OH, it is gas. It will be thirsty if used heavily. They do like gas. Syncro range? I like the power shift for haying but the syncro is bullet proof as long as you keep the shift linkage limbered up and adjusted....James |
Fuel consumption would be my concern.
|
I would say by the location of the gear selection lever that it is a synchro tranny and not power shift.
.... I didn't know early 4020's were 24 volt. 4020's are my favorite model .... my neighbor has (2) |
Oops ... gas model ..... move on .... keep looking
|
Just 24 volt starter on the diesel, 2 12 volt batteries to make 24 volt starter, rest of tractor was 12 volt. Never had a gas....James
|
Thanks for all the help, it makes me feel better about making a choice.
|
Very nice low hours, BUT it is a gas. I would probably rather have a diesel with more hours myself.
Nice tractor though... |
That was one of the last ones JD made that gave little trouble and held the value year after year . If it were a Diesel it would be a higher price too .

I have two JD one 4020, 1970 and a 4000, 1971, (4000 is a 4020 light, it was designed to up grade from 3020, same size axels as the 3020, and same engine as 4020 and basically the same transmission, only one hydraulic valve, ) they both have over 10,000 hr. on them both the engines were gone through at about 6500 hours, I did the OH my self.
I have a loader on the 4000 and both are good tractors both of mine are diesels but the engines (as far as basic construction of the john Deere engines , is basically the same for both gas and diesel (different head and spark plugs, is the biggest difference,) my guess is they designed the diesel and then converted that to gas in the engines, as most engines were offered in both diesel and gas of the same cubic inch, some of the machines used a smaller cubic inch unit as gas but in theory the same Hp about) the 4020 is probable one of the best tractors ever made, still very desirable. one tip, if you need more hydraulic out lets, consider getting a power beyond block or set up and then you can add your own close center valve and quick connect, If you want a winter tractor, the gas would most likely start better than a diesel, I think you would be pleased with the tractor. , |
