Found it! Yup, old mixing valve. Needed a shoe horn to get to it (took an hour to make 4 cuts in copper...fun! Plus, tight quarters cost me the tip of my thumb) The pipes were flush with the bottom of the flooring and between the joists; sawzall, hack saw, dremel with cutting wheel...you name it, I used it since the tubing cutter was useless.
Got it out, Pex and Shark bites plumbed, Got working hot and cold water! YAY!
Except, now the old shutoff valves to the shower are leaking. Must have worked them loose with the sawall. Shut new cut offs off until tomorrow when I'll just yank all the old and replace.
Got it done, and my thinking was right. Sheesh, I have to stop doing small projects...they always lead to major over hauls. Next time, I'll tell the kids to deal with cold showers...LOL!
Matt
BTW, the mixing valve was severely jammed up with sediment. It's in the scrap bucket for brass and the copper pipe is in the other bucket.
