Plastic tubs / garbage cans will work - but if the mice get desperate enough, they can easily chew through them.

My Dad stored his chop for the cows that he mixed in an old chest freezer. It keeps ALL critters out - well other than 2 legged ones. And all you have to do is find someone who has one that died and wants rid of it. Free is always good.

Once you have lost a bag or two of whatever to mice and squirrels the "price" of a galvanized trash can seems pretty small.

LOL . .I got some funny looks last year when at an auction I asked if those 3 old galvanized trash cans were up for sale . .?? . .Three of them for 2 dollars . . .Their loss was my gain.........LOL

A Rat Will For Sure Eat through the Side of those plastic totes, only slow them down a little while. A mice----might not.

to make sure the mice dont eat through my containers, i make sure i just always spill just a lil for em. they get fat to feed the barn cats.
