Another moneymaker. One of my daughters was a romance novel nut for a few years as a teenager. I found four cardboard boxes of them in the garage several years after she had graduated college and moved away. She didn't want them, so I put them on CraigsList for $5 a box. The woman who bought them -- and I'm talking at least 250-300 books in all -- told me she sold them on eBay two for a dollar, plus shipping and handling.

Besides CL and other ads, she also had a deal with some local libraries that collected books for their annual book sales. They didn't want romance novels, so any that were donated, she took off their hands for a small donation.

Besides the book sales themselves, she also made money on the difference between eBay's generic S&H fee and her actual cost to mail the books at book rate. (Not sure I understood this part correctly.) She did all this in her spare time while her kids were in school and was making $75-100 a week.

Can't believe it's been a year.
Felt like it made sense to bring this thread back up because it had a lot of great ideas... plus a few new ideas;

We make our own jerky and have been known to share it with friends. Well, word spread, and it became very popular. Unfortunately for our friends, we only made it now and then. Guess they got tired of waiting...I now take requests/orders. 4 pounds of meat equals 1 pound of jerky (minimum that Ill do). They can supply the meat (love when they bring in venison).

Somehow, word got around that I'm pretty good with small engines. I now have an area of my hot rod shop set aside for small engine repairs. They are more than welcome to supply their own parts. Already had the trailer.

Just a few ideas with the down time we get in the winter.

Again, I don't charge a fee, but they are usually glad to leave something behind.

Matt

I read through the whole thread not to duplicate what someone else already said. Some years back, when I still owned my own home, there were numerous small jobs i needed help with. So, I called Paul, who was an all-around general handyman. Among other things, he could do plumbing and electrical repairs. He was respectful and trustworthy and didn't charge too much.
He had more work than he wanted and he could set his own hours.
So, if you're a handyman, there are many singles who might need your help.

I donated/sold plasma for 25yrs. I got kicked out at age 65. They said they have that cutoff due to older people taking legal drugs. I call once or twice a year to see if they've lifted that quarinteen, but they havnt. The only 2 plasma centers in Tulsa are owned by a German firm.

Quit smoking
Quit drinking
Give up soda, coffee, etc
Stop going to restaurants.
Never buy food/drink at a convenience store you pay for that convenience (wish I could get this one through my DW's head) $1.29 for a 20 oz bottle of Coke at C-Store yet you can get a 8 pack of 20 oz Coke's at grocery for 3 for $10 or even 4 for $10 on sale.
get rid of cable/satellite TV
dump the expensive cell phone service and go with a trac phone
consolidate your in town trips
shop at discount stores, buy used when you can.
buy generic groceries - often they are the same as name brand with a different label
