I thought propane was a byproduct of refining oil into gas, diesel, ect. When I was young it didn't have much value and the refinerys burned it off. They always had big flames on tall stacks 24/7.

Natural gas is pumped from the ground. Some wells produce oil, some oil and natural gas together, and some natural gas only. It is used pretty much in the form it comes out of the ground.

Michael, You don't need to keep the water in your hot water heater hot 24/7. Shut it off and only turn it off a few hours before you need to use hot water. The propane you do have will last a lot longer.

A little good news. One of the Three Natural Gas lines was just put back on line.
Still need to conserve.

Um, Yes....lol They dont have an um, yes guy. Jim...lol Actually you are both right, some wells have phase separators, some direct from ground to home.

My natural gas well, hooks directly to my home. There are no filters or separating equipment. There is a small water catcher thingy, some regulators and pressure gauges. Thats it. Every month, I go down and purge any water/sediment that is in that small reservoir. The other side of my well is another line. It goes directly to a line that runs along the road and into town, directly into homes. Because the pressure there is in pounds and not ounces, (ounces to my home), it has a large reservoir for the water/sediments that collects,( salt brine tank).

So there are different types of wells, Propane is, I suppose you can say its distilled out. They separate by weight and volatility different gases, first by phase (water, liquid, gas) then from there they are "fractioned" out further. Propane and other volatiles like ethylene, being the result.

We got a delivery Friday morning. They only filled the tank to 50% and it was 2.999 per gallon. Don't know when, or if, they'll bring anymore.

As I said on the other propane thread, we reserved a 2,000 gallon allocation last August, along with the initial fill of our thousand gallon tank, at just $1.20 per gallon! No limits on how much is delivered at a time. Being a member of the Farmer's Co-op has been a wonderful thing this year! From what the Co-op people say, the shortage is because the propane shipments into the Midwest can't get here as fast as it is being used. It wouldn't be a problem in most years.

Was told today they are rationing propane here in KY as well. They are shipping it to the south because the people there are having a rough winter. We are 30 degrees below normal today here. We heat with wood. I'm grateful.

Our propane out here is $2.59-$3.39/gal.

But we are in the 70s & have been for weeks now with nights getting down to the mid 50s. Even our homestead has been nice. We were there last weekend in the mid 60s nights in the 30s. The problem is NO SNOW. We need snow badly. Even Flagstaff 7000 ft no snow. So our problems will be this summer & drought. Here on the river this is normal temps for this time of the year. Maybe a bit warm.

price here in nova scotia was around 4.75 per U.S gallon the last couple winters, scared of where it will be heading, as it is my only heat source.

$6.99/gallon today just 30 miles south of me.
No one is getting filled, just enough to get you through till next week. And if you need some "right away" (a coworker got caught with just 5%), $250.00 emergency fill fee, too.

And for tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around -25. Wind chill values between -30 and -40. West wind 7 to 10 mph.

Boy am I glad they filled me up late last week. Got just a little over 90%. And the guy never did say anything about being low on propane but again this is a co-op ag business that is delivering mine and my landlords farm.

I at presently have enough Propane to last me 1 1/2 yrs..was afraid this would happen someday...I heat with wood and electric..mostly wood for cost reasons..

For those inna bind I pray the weather turns warm early or the shortage ends..it's not nice contemplating someone setting somewhere at 20 below and about to run out of propane..

In super cold weather some will push them to 90% as you are using is really fast . Thing would be if it turned off really warm the relief valve might trip

Yep and sometimes LP will just quit putting out pressure they make a heating blanket for tanks but a buddy of mine would just build a small fire under the tank ,that would bring the pressure up .

I thought about that after I posted. As long as your pulling off the tank at a steady pace you can over fill a bit.
