Ditto what 2diamond said. Chest freezer. Mouse proof and dry.

Bret, will you share how/what you mix to feed your chickens? For years I have ground corn and mix in supplement to 16% for the layers, but have not used any other grain. Thanks

Another dedicated Williams shopper.
I go every couple of weeks and will not buy from anywhere else.
I love knowing that it is fresh, contains no rancid oils etc..
and I am supporting another local farmer!

I have 55 gallon barrels with lock on lids, but was just looking for opinions from someone that has stored feed this long and longer.

Williams feed is in campobello, sc. Really just a local farmer that grows/produces feed locally.

Williams is carried by feed stores locally.
You would have to ask around.
I had gotten feed store to carry it locally, but started making the trip when they closed down.

It's fresh, locally grown and produced and much less expensive.

My chickens free range all the time. For extra feed, I buy white wheat and oyster shell. I used to give them corn also, but my egg customers didn't want to buy if they had GMO corn which is pretty much what is available here at a decent price.

When I started buying from those people, I got cracked corn. One day they were out so I went with whole corn. I set up my grandpas grinder and cracked a bucket full that I mixed with the whole corn. At the end of the bag, they wouldn't eat the cracked anymore, just the whole. For a long time they just got a mix of half wheat half corn to supplement whatever they found.

I've tried whole barley, but they always left it in the feeder and ate all the wheat.

During the cold spell we're in, I also give them a tray of barley and wheat grass sprouts every few days.
