So far Maine suits this California boy just fine

I wish you luck wherever you go.

We have found that Maine carries a common mythos for being high taxed. Being about the cheapest place we have lived, and having been drawn into a few debates on the topic. We have discovered that the cities here do seem to have really high taxes [driven 100% by residents demanding high level of municipal services].

The majority of townships in Maine have very low taxes.

My husband and his friend found a great burbot spot on the north lake a few weekends ago. Didn't catch a single laker though.
I've never caught a burbot.....yet. But I have feasted on a couple. Great fish to boil and dip in butter! I only wish there was a bit more meat on them.

I love Alaska; I lived up there as a child, and again a couple of times as an adult. I still have a lot of family up there. Our family is mostly in the Interior, mostly around Tok and Northway, which are the coldest part of the state -- snow on the ground from the end of September to the end of April. That's why I'm in Oregon, LOL! I don't mind seventy below, I don't mind the snow, or the short days in the winter, I don't mind the lack of dark at night in the summer. I DO mind the mosquitoes, black flies, no-see-ums, and white sox, and I DO mind that winter lasts a good solid seven months of the year!

But as for not being able to find real community in the Lower 48, that isn't necessarily true. I think finding community has a lot to do with the person who is looking, but also it's much easier to find community out in rural areas, at least in this particular rural area where God has landed us. Community here is strong and good.
