It does seem that way. There is a lot of back roads between Kingwood and Terra Alta. I grew up in Kingwood.

Lewisburg is very expensive, its the nearest large town to me and that still 2 1/2 hours away. The library is nice and our state fair is located there.

My wife is from West Virginia.......from Holden and that is near Logan. We almost stayed in the area after I retired from the military but relocated to South Central Kansas.

My kid is working as a safety director for the gas industry, based in Western PA. He was a few hours south in WV. the other day, and told me it that he needed 1:45 Hrs to drive from one rig to another, even though they were almost in sight of each other. They were only EIGHT miles apart, as the crow flies, but about 40 miles by road, LOL. Said, his big rig drivers get a little silly when they hit a mile or two of straight road. Sounds like some gorgeous, rough country. He said he talked to folks that live so far back in that they only have atv trails going to their places, and it would be darn near impossible to get a 4x4 truck in without some dozer work. Interesting area indeed.

You should hear some of the stories about the drivers that get sent to WV to work in the oil field. Some of the local drivers have had great fun at the expense of their breathern that didn't grow up driving the hills and valleys.

I had one job that required a two hour drive to get to work by 6:00. No big deal. The only issue was holding up the coal trucks heading to the mine for their first load. I pulled off the road at the first wide spot and let them pass. It took about a month before I got to the point I could keep up with them on the way in.

The well tenders all haul ATVs in their pickups. When a service rig is scheduled, many places require a dozer to get it on the location. You'll never see a dozer in this area without a winch.
