ORD = off road diesel = dyed diesel. I'm certain it is sold in AZ, but if you are not in a rural area, it may be hard to find. If you know where a local petroleum distributor is located, most large cities have one or more, they will probably have ORD or know where you can get it. My local town has at least 3 places to purchase bulk ORD. I'm going tmr AM to fill a 100 gallon tank at $3.38 / gal vs $3.89 for highway diesel.

You are correct, they sell red diesel here. It is rare to find out side rural areas, but there are a couple places to buy it in Phoenix.

Fuel oil costs more than marked diesel. We've discussed doing the opposite. I believe they are similar products, but diesel is more refined. Fuel oil would probably coke up your engine pretty bad.

FWIW, there are lots of people running used motor oil as fuel in diesel engines, both truck and tractor. Some are even running a mixture as high as 90% used motor oil and 10% diesel or gasoline.

Google it...fascinating stuff.

They probably have it at truck stops, or else they'll sell clear diesel at a lower price for off-road use. Truckers can use it in the reefer tank only.

School buses and city buses can also use it in Arizona.

Oneokie is right $1000 a gallon, and yes the dot or state police can stop you at a check point and check your tanks.

Sure seems like they should have a warrant to check your tanks, but I'm sure they've already figured out how to get away with unreasonable searches concerning this...

I was told that around here they are only pulling over pick up trucks with farm truck license plates, but again, that is what I was told.

By the way, this is something I've always wanted to know.

If you use dyed fuel in a diesel, how long does it take to burn the dyed fuel if you only run non-dyed fuel after that?

Seems that if you bought a used truck and someone had been running dyed fuel in it, could you get fined if you got pulled over, even if you had only been running clear fuel in it since you bought it?

Maybe they can't check a personal vehicle unless it has ag or farm plates but any truck large enough to have a dot number can be checked. It does take a while to get the dye out of the tank! I knew people that would run a tank load now and then to clean up their truck engines. But I don't think they are aloud to run high sulfur fuel even off road now so there is no reason to chance it.
