I did 250 bales this year with a pine straw baler - Just broke the first one open this morning - Man, it sure makes good hay. It smelled as fresh as when I baled it. The bales are only about 40 lbs tho, They're tight and easy to handle, stack well, and keep well. It takes a while to learn to get a good bale, I use different size compression blocks to get the best pack.
My baler was made by Barnes welding shop in Florida, I had it delivered to Okla. at a total price including delivery $302.00 about 6 years ago. I have made about 1,200 or 1,300 bales since then that I didn't have to buy. I figured a close estimate of .08 to .10 cents per bale as my actual cost, not counting my labor.
In the process I found out that I like doing that kind of work. I made my own hand hay rakes and am working on a wood 3 prong fork.
