I get my wormer through equine megastore (the AU site) and have had good experiences- it's the same stuff, just labeled in metric for sale there.

Panacur is GREAT stuff- If someone has the dosage for the horse-labeled stuff, I'd really appreciate it. I used it last time I wormed but it was prescription stuff and I hate to make an extra vet visit (with the whole horde, it's an adventure!) just for wormer.

Barbara,
The Garlic actually kills the worms. It's high in vitamins and minerals including sulphur and copper. Two minerals known for their worm fighting capabilities. The Brewers Yeast works from the inside out. After an animal has been taking this for a while you will notice that they won't have any fleas, the mosquitos won't bite, the ticks won't bite either. The brewers yeast makes the skin taste really bitter to the little pesties. The tincture combination is a little added insurance. And the myrrh in it is soothing and healing to their insides. It is great AND very safe for dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. In lactating dogs or cats they also get an added bonus... the Brewers Yeast gives them very rich and yummy milk. My sister even took it while nursing all 4 of her children.
You should be able to pick up all the ingredients at your local health food store. If you can't find all of it be sure to ask. Most are willing to special order it for you.
Oh, I almost forgot to give you the doseage for the Garlic and Brewers Yeast... it's 1/4 tsp. each every day. Some health food stores carry a pet tablet that is Brewers Yeast and Garlic. Buying bulk and doing it yourself is much cheaper.
Make sure that it says brewers yeast and NOT nutritional yeast, they are two different things. Very happy to help.

Leanna

yeast

Do you think the brewers yeast would work for humans? DH is bothered by flies constantly. I think it could be his blood or something they like about him as they don't bother me as much. We just love Aussies. We hope to get a blue merle the end of summer. What is yours like?

I just love my McNab. She is so smart, very loyal, will "head " or "heel", and this is the first dog that I actually feel is my "soul companion". I got her when she was only 4 wks. old, and I really feel that it was a great decision(sp?)(can't sp this morning :haha: )
My hubby and I both take the Brewers Yeast daily in our protein shakes. You'll want to mix it with something cause it tastes pretty bitter. I guess the stuff works on chiggers to because my husband was out cutting cedar poles and never got any on him. Our friends and neighbors would be out doing things and they would have bites all over their ankles and legs. All I can say is try it for yourself and then you can be the judge.

My Aussie is a male blue merle which I named Jax. He'll be 2 years old on August the 1st. He's extremely intelligent, likes to take care of the other animals and tends to think he is a lap dog. He is also what my dad likes to call a trash dog...but I'm fixing that by spraying the trash can with Grannick's bitter apple spray.

If you are going to get an aussie, I would recommend crate training as they are avid chewers, you should see my couch . They are a great dog.

Anyway go to www.asca.org which is the Australian Sherperd Club of America, they have all sorts of info as well as lists of breeders and rescues.

Try using Combocare for horses. Combocare is 2% Moxidectin and 12.5% Praziquantel. The Moxidectin is the same compound as is found in Interceptor and is safe for Aussies. Moxidectin takes care of heartworm microfilaria. Praziquantel is the same compound as is found in Droncit and takes care of tapeworms. A tube of Combocare will have the compounds listed in milligrams on the side for dosage calculation. It is available online at http://wwwhorsehealthusa.com for $11.99 plus shipping. By the way, this combo can be used in cats also to kill tapeworms as cats are not hurt by either compound.

Make sure the combo you select is this one. There is another tube called Equimax or Zimectrin (depending on the manufacturer the store has in stock) and this combo has ivermectrin in it with the praziquantel and cannot be used in cats or Aussies.

Dude! Good call, Sandra, i'm putting that one in my favorites! I love panacur, but it does require you also have heartworm preventative --- and doesn't take care of tapeworm. Otherwise, it's wonderfully gentle and doesn't chew them up the way so many other wormers do.

As for the other ... I've tried not to say anything, but feel compelled to.

Please be very careful with wormword, the walnut stuff, etc. I know these have been very popular remedies in recent years, but they can really wreak havoc with you. I have a friend who was using them who ended up essentially stripping her digestive system  and suffered IBD, gas and a horrible time digesting for several years after her use of them. Her experience is not uncommon. So please be careful and don't assume that, just because they're *natural*, they're necessarily safe.

You can buy SafeGueard Direct as well as panacur liquid or granules from www.revivalanimal.com they are the cheapest around ;-)

I breed German Shorthaired Pointers for Show & Field and we have used SafeGuard for years to control worms

Hope This Helps
