I got rid of all my credit cards, so I don't have any of that infor for you.
As for your password, if you use 3 or 4 words together that have no relationship, it is in the billions of chances that your password can be hacked.
Something like catbughamstar1 Cats, Bugs, Ham and stars have no relationship to each other, and no relationship like your name, address or personal information does to you. It's almost impossible for a hacker to guess that password. Capital letters and numbers make it an even stronger password.

Well to get Cash from a CC out of a ATM Machine you have to use a PIN. And ALL Transactions are asking for that 3 digit number on the back, so just knowing the CC Number itself is no good, so those 3 digits are somewhat like a PIN Number.

My dil checked into a hotel in Myrtle Beach, SC, the ONLY place she used her debit card there, and within 3 hours, purchases were being made on her card at a grocery store in that town. Unscrupulous employees are often the culprits. It DOES sound like yours is a computer issue though, and I'd follow the advice above on that.

Agreed. I have USAA which is consistently rated extremely high and I rarely shop online (I use paypal) and almost always use cash. YET, my card was compromised a few months ago. I have absolutely no idea how, though the USAA gal said sometimes the crooks use numbers at random.
Vigilance is key and USAA alerted me. I have an auto alert for any purchase made over $100 since I rarely spend a lot. Mine was used in Texas at HEB (but I live in MN). The USAA rep said it was a Russian operation.

I've worked in CC software security and the problem is usually not online it is when someone has physical access to your credit card. We would try to place as few points of contact between you and your information which included ANYONE seeing your CC info. I am still WAY WAY WAY more leery about pulling a credit card out at a restaurant (dont let it out of your sight) or at a gas station than buying stuff online. Online, there is no human likely seeing your data. Very few people has even the capacity to decrypt this in most companies servers and most bypass that server now totally in place of a firm that's sole purpose is to protect that info. Also, for online, consider using paypal or similar as it prevents a further point of contact with your CC info. But by farther the riskiest transactions are in brick and mortar locations HANDING someone your card.

I don't have credit cards only use debit. The only time I was "hacked" was after using my checking account info to pay my mortgage, online at their secure site. I was hit for $29.95 to a porn site. Mortgage company claims their site is secure and they didn't have a breach. Yeah right. The one and only time I use my account info to pay online and I get hit? Plus I found a site where others posted about the same charge using the same mortgage co. My credit union refunded my money. I now pay my mortgage through my credit union's bill pay. It's rare that I order online.

Whow! So many good replies! To Start with I have been with usaa since 1978 and that's the card that got hacked. They caught the first to but not this one.$478 walmart.com,a gas station in calif. and this one $352 at walmart .com again. They didn't catch this one(although I think they'll take care of it.The usaa rep. said walmart is their biggest problem.
The first one I went through all the hoops. The fbi ic3 report, indiana state police,my verifcation and it still took 5 weeks before walmart would even tell me what they were trying to buy,who it was or where they were having it shipped. It's kind of like walmart was protecting their sales instead of me.The guy spent $478 on my card, probably does it 20 times a day well in 5 weeks they protected that info their sales were about $80,000 higher.Once I finnaly got the info the guy was from fla. and all I got was the state police turned the info over to fla. and haven't heard a word since.
I probably had 15 hours in sorting through info and filling out forms to basicly get nothing out of it. My understanding is that because the sale didn't go through it's not a serious crime. Thanks a lot!! All this mess for nada!
I use my cards at gas station-grocery and on line. Noone EVER touches my card! I don't know how they could get the info if not on line!
Not to rag wallyworld but I'll add this. I had to get some stuff at lowes this morning so took the wifes car to gas it up while I was out. Wallworld is next door so I punched in the grade I wanted, lifted the handle and started pumping. About half way through the fill up I noticed it was pumping 93 instead of 87. When I went inside to pay (since I don't have a cc at the moment) I told the lady what happened and got this response."Oh that will always happen if you select a grade before picking up the nozzle. When you pick it up it automatically resets its self and if you don't reselect a grade it does it for you". Now that's quite nice of walmart! They have figured out how to make me pay $.22 more per gallon when I didn't want that grade. It makes me wonder how many times they got me when using my card that I didn't know about. It also makes me wonder how many other people they nailed at the exact time since there were 15 other people at the pumps! So they made an extra $3.00 off me in 5 minutes! Do the math.
Well, back to the cc. Paypal is ok for some stuff but They are on the anti-gun kick and I do some repair work on gun. Their policy is That you can not buy or sell using paypal, any gun.gun parts or ammo through them.Keep in mind this also includes bb guns and airsoft. They allow the money to come into paypal then freeze your account for violating their policy. It is a real nightmare to try and get your own money back from them. I've talked to people that have had hundereds of dollars tied up in a frozen account for months! Even if you buy a gun stock off ebay, the freeze your account!
Sorry if it turned into a rant but I'm tired of so many people trying to stick it to me!

Did you talk to the Secret Service in Florida or your state?
I once was selling computers by phone, and one for about $2,000 was ordered, and since they said where they were, and where they wanted it shipped - and I knew the areas and what they said didn't jive with the maps, etc. I took as much information as I could, and the company ended up with the secret service (part of treasury dept), was involved and eventually we (as I kept working with them) caught her.
So check out secret service helping.

ANGIE !!!! Don't scare me like that !!! I thought I did something wrong again!!!
Any the answer is no. The fbi ic3 is the internet and white collar crime division and supposed to be the clearing house for these type crimes.Of course that was in the spring and I haven't heard a thing back from them!

Normally An ATM transaction is a "debit" not a credit and wisely requires a PIN. Using a credit card at an ATM requires a PIN from the card issuer. The 3 digit number is not a PIN. It only verifies that you physically have the card in your hand, when placing an on line or phone order.

It should make perfect sense.
if someone stole your login password, they could transfer your entire balance into another account.

I am saying if you get cash out of a ATM with a CC and YES you CAN get CAsh out of a ATM using your CC IF your have set up a PIN. And NO you can Set Your OWN PIN while on the phone to the CC Company.
I had the Same pin as I used for my debit card.
Ask me how I know. If you knew my history with CC's, believe me I know. LOL

I only buy from nationally known companies with SSL technology.
meaning I pretty much stick to Amazon and one or two other companies for online purchases.

And when you see that Locked Padlock in the address, that is the sign that site is a SSL one. Has gone through all the certifications to show the Locked Padlock Symbol.

Plowjockey I agree with you if I were doing this on line but I ALWAYS deal with usaa on the phone and have to go through 5 or 6 security questions every time. Even after going through the routine questions they told me they no longer allow transferes like that unless my name is listed on the account the money is to be deposited in.I'm sure there is a reason for it but I'm not smart enough to figure it out!
