we bought a portable air conditioner, and our son did tooo..they are on wheels and you can wheel them to a window..vent it out thru the window without removing the screen..empty water occasionally into a bucket..

works well ..our house is 2800 square feet, sons is smaller..we close off unused rooms to keep the air cond from not working as hard and we do shade the windows in the south rooms from the hot day sun..we tend to open our windows at night if it is cooler outside than what the AC is set for (72)..but leave them closed if it is warmer and leave the AC on then.

A package terminal heat pump is a ductless means of heating and cooling using the efficiency of a Heat Pump. I have installed these in a doublewide as well as single wide mobile homes. The users state that they like the units and that they are reasonably cost effective to operate. Here is a link so that you can get an idea of what they are. If you shop the internet you can get a good deal.

We bought one of these, and have used it in just AC mode. I hooked up the hose for the dehumidifier-I can not tell anyone how great this works to keep the house cool-without the AC . Seriously, I am sitting here, had to take a break from working on a weaving, and my feet are froze. I came over to shut the machine off and sat down and here was this question on the net. This machine takes at least 5 gallons of water out of the air per day. I Love it! We got this unit from Big Lots!
