Commando or not commando! I say whatever floats your boat.
I do wonder about wet spots on furniture. I mean.....if a woman is that leaky, you'd think she know it and bring a large sponge to sit on!

Wow...this thread is hillarious! Anyway...I find that most ladies panties sold these days are not the most durable things...the best are probably VS panties as some others have mentioned. Hanes used to make womens underwear that resembled men's briefs somewhat...they were a thicker fabric and had a thick elastic band. I loved those things and was so sad when I could not find them anymore...they covered everything, didn't ride up...they were the most comfie underpants ever and the came in lots of cute colors and prints. Really wish they would bring them back! But, for now, I mostly buy the VS cotton bikini style panties.
As for going commando...I really don't know how people do it. I find that pants and shorts tend to rub...um...sensitive areas...and, sorry to be graphic...but when I am ovulating there's copious amounts of "eggs whites"--you know what I am talking about ladies! Pretty sure I'd leave a trail like a slug if I didn't have on underwear with some kind of liner....YIKES! I am sure there are plenty of others with this issue!

My opinion on the original question: At age 24 I had my first of 2 c-sections. it was an emergency due to fetal distress. I was in a LOT of pain afterwards because I had also spent 20 hours in labor. I could not wear a single pair of my underwear at home. every pair hit that panty line spot where my incision was. My mom went to walmart and bought me a pack of large white briefs. they are hanes, they are cotton, they are white...heck...they are GRANNY PANTIES!!! Now at age 30, they are my favorite underwear. they are low cut enough in the leg to be comfortable, but high enough not to bind up my legs in movement. they are most likely a size too big and that is okay by me. they are my favorite for cleaning and chores.
As for the second topic. i can't go without panties....i think it feels weird, but whatever floats your boat. i go without bras as much as possible and often garden in a sports bra because it is comfortable and cool that way.

this!!! funny thread, and I had 2 c-sections. the old style. cannot stand anything to sit on top of that scar. no way. started wearing the grannies at that point too.

At home, I don't wear a bra, heck, I wouldn't ever wear one if I could get away with it. The only times I go "commando" are at night in bed, (I am wearing a nightgown or long t-shirt) and at re-enactments when I have on a skirt and 4 layers of petticoats. I save the split drawers for my hoop skirts.

Exactly! I was wondering when someone was going to bring this up!
And really, there are all kinds of everyday normal feminine discharge on a daily basis for most women, even if they bathe or shower twice a day. Normal stuff, and I don't want it on my clothes or furniture, so that's why I don't go commando during the day. At night in my own bed, yes I do go commando, and that's when the air gets to circulate.
This thread has been fun to read, especially being up with insomnia. LOL

I have heard that the reason God gave ladies legs was to prevent that "slime trail". Well, that and having legs makes it easier for them to fetch a fellers beer.

You aren't kidding! Some of these girls are describing much more than a skivvies would ever absorb!
My garden clothes are not tight. I don't really ever wear any type of binding clothes ... even my blue jeans that I wear in the field are baggy. I despise form fitting clothes - perhaps that is why I go commando in the garden. Anyhow-that takes care of the discomfort of rubbing in tender spots.
IDK-either I'm getting old and drying up like a prune faster than normal or I just don't get freaked out so much. Perhaps it's the latter; my mom is one of those over 60 year olds who chases my girls around with baby wipes and makes them wash their dirty feet before they come inside, and wears a fresh panty liner every single day though she is 10 year past menopause. I think growing up in an ultra clean, Puritan-type environment has sent me to the other side. That said, if during a normal day I was dealing with drippage described in some of these posts, I promise I would never, ever sit on anyone's couch! Ever. Heck, I might not even leave the house!

 TMI warning.
I urge anyone who is the least bit curious or tempted, to try it *just once* - (I would suggest doing it soon after 'aunt flo' has left the house if you're of that age.) You might find you actually prefer going without, at least once in a while! For those worried about secretions days 1-12 of your cycle are usually pretty dry days. Right around ovulation (typically days 12-16) is when your body produces thinner mucus - easily caught with a DivaCup if you go without underwear.
Shannon, my mom is of the pantyliner crowd too.
So no, not everyone who goes commando leaves snail trails. I don't and nobody knows my little secret as I'm very discreet about it (although you all know now-lol).

It is amazing how worked up some people can get about the personal decisions of other folks.

When I work outside on hot days I wear cotton briefs. The rest of the time I prefer hipsters. I like Hanes, they seem to fit me best. It's kind of like shoes if you try a few brands eventually you will find a pair that seems tailor made for you.

Sadly there are many people who don't have a tight bladder or sphincter. They don't need a nappy but they do drip and undies will absorb that little mess.
And of course then there is the issue of butt crack sweat - particularly with men. The design of men's underwear does need to be updated to fit over the beer bellies which is why so many just can't keep from exposing themselves.
And with kids who are not the best at wiping (and many adults are also sloppy at this) you realize that underwear was designed to corral the skidmarks.

Fresh shaved legs, commando and a skirt feels very nice on a warm summer day.

Not worked up. Just discussing. And if you will notice everyone has been playing nice and we all agree that what you do is up to you - but we don't all have to think alike.

Fair enough. I was thinking under normal circumstances but if there is an issue with holding in body fluids that need to be controlled, I'm with you.
There is a learning curve to wiping but since I have girls I think we might have a head start on that. Boys seem to be a little less concerned. But my girls do wear panties when we leave the house and I will not encourage them otherwise. DD2 is still little enough that she doesn't always remember to put them on before her shorts but since I can barely keep her in clothes I'm not that concerned about panties. I think Paisley takes after my mom because she wouldn't be caught dead without her granny panties. The child will only wear the ones that go up to her navel. She *surely* didn't get that from me!

Speaking of underwear.. Years ago when my son and daughter were both under the ages of 6..life was a lot busier, as I'm sure you can relate. It was all I could do to manage to get son dressed and out of the house to the bus stop, with little daughter in tow. We were rushing to the bus stop and he was jogging along when the bus went by. We went into a run, but no worries, whew, we made it. He climbed up the stairs of the bus and went in. I waved goodbye and watched it pull away. About a few blocks away, puzzled, I watched it pull over. The door opened, I heard screams of laughter and something came flying out the door. The door shut and the bus pulled away.
I was curious, but daughter had a blowout right then so I needed to go back home to change my daughter's diaper.
That afternoon the bus came rolling back up and I walked to meet it. As the kids got off the bus, one of them ran forward over to where the item had been thrown. He turned around with his eye patch on and yelled "ARGH..I'm a pirate!"
For there was my black thong which had somehow attached itself to my son's velcro pocket, which we did not notice because we were in such a hurry to get him out the door that morning.
