Thanks for the kind words everyone. We had a new baby so I am losing time and daylight -- so I don't have extra pictures right now.

There is a bow to the roof but it is not from sagging logs. It is because the base of the trees used for the logs supporting the roof are bigger that the skinnier tops. When you put purlins down it makes it look bowed when reality it just follows the contour of the logs. It looks a little off in the rear picture but it works.

Without shimming each purlin on the log I'm not sure how someone could get a truly flat roof on a structure like this.

If I can either cut down or source trees of a smaller diameter I may try this same approach for the car port I was originally looking to build. This way of building is very cost effective but takes a ton of labor. This was compounded by trees that are very heavy and of a larger diameter than what I needed.

Don't know where you live, but because of they way you laid the purlins, and the distance between them, the roof will likely collapse with a large snow.

I appreciate the feedback. I'm not too worried as I have seen less stand up to more up here. I will monitor it, though.

That "loafing shed" design but stretched out like a "loafing shed limousine" is what we call an "equipment shed". You make it long and you put a wall on the back (the low end of the shed) and build it - like someone else mentioned - so that the wind hits the outside of back wall. You line up your tractor and all the accessories (or, in our case, all your horse-drawn implements) side-by-side-by-side-by-side and that way nothing gets buried (in theory) and has to be moved in order to pull some other piece of equipment out. You can keep building onto the end and making it longer as you acquire more toys and get more building materials. A proper, old equipment shed will be made with about 20 different kinds/types/ages of lumber. Lots of poles, some milled lumber, maybe even different kinds of roofing. You can enclose the ends, too, if you have enough materials.

Here's an impossibly perfect and tidy reproduction of an equipment shed at a museum exhibit.

Storage sheds for cars

Picked up on this thread for a cost efficient storage shed for cars, trucks, boats, RVs, and trailers. These units can be mounted on any surface including concrete slabs, gravel, and sand. These units are portable and easy to assemble.

Thanks for giving me an idea. I have piles of slash Cedar. I could build a structure & use the slash for the roof & sides. It wouldn't be weather tight but a nice shelter in the summer. It would solve the problem of what to do with all the slash besides burn it. I can recycle it.

Keep in mind that birds LOVE those sheds around here! You will have to get a scary balloon to keep them away. If you plan on parking a car in one of them!
